The origin, history and impact of the 1882 law that made it illegal for Chinese workers to come to America and for Chinese nationals already here ever to become U.S. citizens. The first in a long line of acts targeting the Chinese for exclusion.

Until 1944, Muslims were legally forbidden to become US citizens.

All a part of defining "whiteness" and excluding certain categories.

It went into how they were forced from railroad and other jobs. It was the reason they had nothing left but to open laundries and such. They worked harder than white people, and would do the most dangerous jobs on the railroad.
