John Goodman speaks after "Roseanne" cancellation, Barr's racist tweet

"Roseanne" star John Goodman, who played Roseanne Barr's husband Dan Connor, spoke publicly Wednesday for the first time since Barr's racist tweet and the show's abrupt cancellation. In footage obtained by "Entertainment Tonight," Goodman said he would "rather say nothing than to cause more trouble."

ABC canceled "Roseanne" Tuesday after Barr tweeted about Valerie Jarrett, an adviser to former President Obama, writing "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." Despite the show's high ratings, ABC canceled it within hours and issued a statement saying "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values."

And, I know him from his work for New Orleans post Katrina--not only because of his amazing portrayal in Treme, but his real life work for the city's impacted citizenry, much that has remained unpublicized. He's a fine man, whose own actions speak for him and he's right. Everything has already been said.

I might wish he'd have spoken out immediately, but he's not into social media, apparently and undoubtedly, at this juncture, doesn't want to enter the shit storm. On some level, who can blame him?

I have NO doubt he is devastated by this and Roseanne's crap is hers. Goodman has shown by his own example, that he is the antithesis of Barr. He's a good guy and I'm not going to disparage him.

3. John Goodman Shrugs Off 'Roseanne' Cancellation

Roseanne Barr’s on-screen husband has shrugged off ABC’s decision to cancel Roseanne and said he’s oblivious to Barr’s bigoted comments that tanked the show. “I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway,” he said in a video released by ET on Wednesday. “I’ve been up there [11] times already, and if I didn’t get one I’m not gonna get one,” he said. As for Barr’s racist tweet comparing a black former Obama aide to an ape, Goodman said he doesn’t “know anything about it.” “I don’t read it,” he said.

Maybe a better headline at least?

If he speaks out against Roseanne, she'll go on the attack. If he speaks out in support of her (which I would think highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened) it could affect his career.

I am wondering if there is some behind the scene damage control going on, to resurrect the show with the same cast, but sans Roseanne.

When Netflix streaming went from not much to really not much with quality movies. They JACKED rates under the gise of have better and a much larger streaming selection,in reality they just wanted "seed" money to start doing their own productions without using their money.

I was with them for years when all they had was the DVD's in the mail which worked well IMO. Then they started streaming and jacked the rates on mail DVD's. Then they announced they were doing away with the mail program until their stock tanked, then they were going to sub it out. I went to streaming only but their movie selection sucked for the price paid.

Better to let this die and not continue the media shit show.
The equivalent of "don't feed the trolls"

If more people would have done this with trump, maybe it would have had a positive effect.

He's not the one who spewed racist garbage. I didn't realize public castigation of associates guilty of wrong-doing is a requirement for celebrities.

Lame statement from him, but understandable if he wants to distance himself from further questions about Roseanne.
