Take this NAFTA pushers (U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) just introduced)

TAKE action here: http://action.citizen.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=11299

Quick. Turn. Cliff ahead!

That’s the message behind the fair trade legislation that U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) just introduced. It’s a wakeup call to U.S. trade negotiators.

Ask your senators to co-sponsor the 21st Century Trade Agreements Act: http://action.citizen.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=11299

Today, U.S. negotiators are speeding all of us toward a cliff. Millions more offshored U.S. jobs. Floods of unsafe food. Corporate attacks on our environmental and health laws.

The cliff is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “free trade” agreement. Trade negotiators want to sign it this year. But you can help stop this “NAFTA-on-steroids” with all of Asia and Latin America.

Sherrod’s bill, the 21st Century Trade Agreements Act (S. 3347), ensures that our trade policy exports U.S. products and not U.S. jobs. The bill protects our values — promoting strong human, labor and environmental rights.

U.S. negotiators are at it again. Behind closed doors, they’re pushing an agenda of corporate empowerment and U.S. job loss that only a robber baron could love. They’re trying to sell TPP by branding it as a “21st century trade agreement” — as if!

Members of Congress, the public and press are locked out of the closed-door TPP talks. Meanwhile, 600 corporate advisors have the secret texts.

Here comes the 21st Century Trade Agreements Act to the rescue: It says what should and should not be in our trade pacts so they work for us. And it would put Congress and the public back in the driver’s seat.

Help blaze the path toward a real 21st century trade agreement.

Ask your senators to co-sponsor the 21st Century Trade Agreements Act today.

Here’s what it would do:

Identify with which countries we should negotiate trade deals — countries where there will be demand for more U.S. exports, so we create jobs here. Not those listed by our State Department as human and labor rights violators.

Ensure the rules work for us — no more incentives to offshore investment and jobs, no banning Buy American procurement preferences, and no imports of food that do not meet our safety standards. Yes to strong labor and environmental standards.

Give us a steering wheel and an emergency brake — no more runaway trade negotiators. The bill opens up the negotiating process. And no deals can be signed unless Congress says they work for us.

Email your senators today. Ask them to co-sponsor the 21st Century Trade Agreements Act.

This is our road map to the new trade policy that President Obama promised during his last campaign. Let’s get those runaway trade negotiators under control. Together, we can turn around the TPP — or stop it cold.

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,

Brooke Harper

I sent the action letter to my senators,
and it will fall on deaf ears as usual.
But I did it anyway.

He's MY Senator (he's from my hometown and my dad used to work with his mom and has met him a few times). And I really hope he runs for President in 2016. He has my vote AND a great deal of my effort if he does.
