Gay marriage supporters lined Farnam Street in front of the Chick-fil-A at Mutual of Omaha during lunchtime Friday for “National Same-Sex Kiss Day,” a protest of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's opposition to gay marriage.

“I loved (the restaurant) when I first found out it was here,” said Ashton Jeffries, a 22-year-old bartender in Omaha who was standing outside Chick-fil-A with her girlfriend of two years, Morgan Hayes, also 22. “I don't want anything to do with the company now.”

“Kiss Day,” a national movement encouraging same-sex couples to photograph themselves kissing in the restaurants or in front of the fast-food chain's signs, followed Wednesday's “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”

Chick-fil-A found itself at the center of the national controversy after Cathy was quoted in a Baptist publication saying he endorsed the “biblical definition of the family unit.” Gay rights organizations and advocates pledged to boycott the chain, while several religious groups encouraged members to show their support by dining at the restaurant.
