Yesterday Morning Joe asked the question
If TRUMP refused to step down, who HAS the authority to make him step down... or what if he used emergency powers to shut down the election permanently?
The Constitution must list some where how to handle a would be dictator. Maybe the DOJ is the one who can legally move in and remove Trump from office? Or perhaps a supreme court order given to the FBI?
dOES ANYONE KNOW??

(7,633 posts)He will cease to be president. Federal marshals could drag him out of the white house and the secret service won't stop it since he will no longer be president.

(41,831 posts)him to be impeached, with him in power, they keep their jobs, and they can all end up doing what Pruitt has been doing, leaching off the US government money.

(7,633 posts)We will retake the house in November. Probably Mueller will send his report to Congress at that time. It's likely we get him impeached. Problem is, we need 67 senators to convict and we will have 52 dems at best . I am hoping that what Mueller finds is so devastating that even the top ditch Trump.

(41,831 posts)and Republicans are too afraid of him to allow impeachment.
And..Is Pence ambitious enough to invoke the 25th amendment??
drray23
(7,633 posts)It requires members of the cabinet but also 2/3 in both houses of Congress instead of a simple majority in the house and 2/3 in the Senate.
At this point, maybe we should start a mega go fundme to raise money and bribe Trump to resign. It would be a good investment...

(41,831 posts)If he self appoints himself President for Life, He will have total access to the United States Treasury to steal from.
Than again, if He did appoint himself President for life, would the Secret Service allow it, or would they simply refuse to cover him any onger. I could see him employing some special ops company as his bodyguard.

In 2020, or 2024 if we are unfortunate, even most GOPers will be sick of trump.

(41,831 posts)that Xi Jinping is leader for life, Trump said, that hey maybe he would try and do that, since no one has done it before..

(54,770 posts)I have to admit, trump does make one question what weve taken for granted in the past.
Worse happens, well make trump Prez of the South and compensate those of us who live here to move.

(19,814 posts)If they invoked it. It would remove maggot due to mental incapacity. It would involve the VP and other cabinet members. So it wont happen but they COULD do it.

(41,831 posts)and I have the feeling that if Pence became President, He would start trying to enforce his Religious views on everyone in this country. He has been silent for so long, that its scary because you tend to believe he is plotting to be ruler of the USA as well.
drray23
(7,633 posts)He is a standard run of the mill rw asshole. He does not have anywhere near the charisma or following that Trump has. If we control the house and.maybe the Senate as well he won't be able to.sign any law of that nature since the dem lleaders won't put it on the floor.

(14,077 posts)He doesn't have to step down. His term is up in 4 years. He can continue to howl at the wall after that, but he has no legitimate authority.

(748 posts)This is indeed the answer. It is, and always has been the answer, any and every time some silly know-nothing, be it a "Bush won't leave office"-type or an "Obama won't leave office"-type mouths such ignorance nonsense.
One wearies of it, after a time. One might expect just a little bit more from DUers.
So, again, thank you for this. A little ray of sunshine peaking through a dark cloud of foolishness.

(42,704 posts)It really is depressing that some DUers have the same misconceptions that tea party types had during the Obama years.

(41,831 posts)Did you hear that Trump talked to Xi Jinping of China and when told
that Xi Jinping is leader for life, Trump said, that hey maybe he would try and do that, since no one has done it before..

(62,416 posts)whether he is to be removed by impeachment or by losing an election will he go?
Will he go into a defense of the impeachment or election being "illegitimate" somehow? Will he try to rally supporters around the country.
My kids keep asking me what Trump is doing or can he do such and such (eg - the kids at the border) and I have to tell them over and over we are in uncharted territory.
Unless the election is overwhelmingly against Trump I fully expect him to obstruct the transfer of power. And if he does, how will it be addressed? Will the army have to be called out? If so, who commands it?
I don't want to sound conspiratorial, but I certainly hope some one is doing a little thinking on this.

(70,696 posts)No conviction, no GO, unless he is arrested and is chased barefoot down marble halls like a Roman emperor by Pratorian Guards (which I dream happening).

(41,831 posts)where impeachment might be suggested, and Congress turns their backs on the so called "Fake News-FBI is lying" statements, and refuse to impeach, we will have to wait until 8 years is up (Provided the Russians interfere again, and they will.) before we can be rid of him..
Michael Avenatti (Stormy Daniel's Lawyer) predicted Trump will NOT pull a full Term, could he be wrong, when he has been right about so many things?
UTUSN
(70,696 posts)Not "found guilty". Conviction by Senate = removal from office. If not convicted, he stays till outcome of next election unless he wins/loses or resigns or 25th amend.

(41,831 posts)has been hiding in the shadows, wanting to be President, and waiting for the right moment to "25th" him...I wonder if he wants to be President that badly.
question everything
(47,481 posts)Impeachment will not get the 67 votes in the senate. But we do know that a sitting president can be sued. At least civil suit. Paula Jones sued Bill Clinton.
I hope that he can be criminally sued for using his office to enrich himself and his family.
