Three-year-old girl dies after statue falls on her at Mumbai hall

https://www.ndtv.com/mumbai-news/three-year-old-girl-dies-after-statue-falls-on-her-at-mumbai-hall-441363

Mumbai: Sunday turned out to be a black day for a Borivli family that had gone to attend a condolence meet in Kora Kendra Hall. During the proceedings, a three-year-old girl of the family climbed up a statue at the venue, but it accidentally fell on her, resulting in her death.

According to police, on Sunday evening, Jitendra Nandlal Mehta, 40, a resident of Punit Apartments near SV Road, Majithiya Nagar, in Kandivli (West), along with his wife and daughter Vishwa had gone to attend a condolence meet at the hall in Borivli (West).

Around 300 people had gathered at the hall and were paying homage to a relative who had passed away. While Vishwa's parents were interacting with other visitors, she wandered out and started playing with a statue kept near the gate.

"She climbed up the statue, lost her balance and fell on the floor. The wooden structure, which weighs around 50 kg, also fell on her, due to which Vishwa sustained severe head injuries. On hearing her screams, people rushed to help her and took her to Bhagwati Hospital nearby, where she was declared dead on admission," said a police officer.

The statues generally tend to win these things.

6. If the kid had time to climb up on something, the parents had the time to stop it

Literally none of these examples you're spamming the board with are an example of anything other than a kid doing something stupid and the parents not paying attention. There's not an example of a company putting a rug over a pit lined with spikes, or a sign saying "climb here" on an electrified structure. Sorry, but personal responsibility is a thing even if you think we need to line the world with foam rubber because other people won't watch their kids better.

At some point, parents must be responsible for their children. My parents had four kids all in the space of 6 years. They managed to watch out for us and make us behave in the 60s long before there were as many safety regulations as there are in place now. There were not as many fences and warning signs around back then. Parents just took care of minding their children. It was expected.

Now days, it seems people feel like everyone else is responsible for their kids safety more than they are themselves as parents. It's absurd. The world is only a dangerous place if you allow it to be.

Thankfully the recent case in the U.S. only resulted in a monetary hit.

That was your point, right?

And then this chick from Kansas stole her shoes

Truly - I was pretty badly injured as a child when a garage storage cabinet fell on me. Nowadays those sorts of things come with wall anchors.

This is the third event in a matter of days. It's very tragic, but such a strange coincidence.

Furniture, statues, all kinds of things, if improperly installed, will fall on children and kill them.
