Top 10 Conservative Idiots #5-2: Make A Run From The Border Edition

Welcome back to the Top 10 Conservative Idiots! 15 minutes with us can save an average of 15% or more on your car insurance! I want to start by talking about the World Cup. So you know how all teams have their favorite sporting rituals, Like how fans of the Detroit Red Wings throw a dead octopus onto the ice during a game? Or how fans of the Nashville Predators throw dead catfish on the ice? Well fans of the Niger team who made it to the World Cup this year were told by the Russian government that they couldn’t bring chickens into the stadium. No, I’m not talking about chicken nuggets. No, I’m not talking about chicken tenders. I’m not even talking about Popeye’s Chicken. Yeah somehow I don’t think you can get that in Russia. But fans of the Niger team have been painting chickens in the colors of their home country’s flag in hopes that it will bring their team good luck. Wait, what? Yeah I think we may need to do a deep dive into strange sports rituals around the world in a future edition of the Top 10 which would make for a great “I Need A Drink” segment. Yeah and how can I do a story about chickens without doing my best GOB impression?

OK enough of the intro. We have a lot of idiocy to get to in an especially shitty week for those of us who haven’t drank the conservative Kool-Aid. But first John Oliver is back and he delves into the history of Chinese dictator Xi Jinping:

Conservatives were exceptionally evil this week. For the first slot this week we are going to the border because Trump’s ICE has become a shockingly evil force and it’s absolutely scary. In the second slot there’s an exceptionally foul plan to separate my home state of California into 3 states and it’s very evil, and has a stink of Russia on it. In the third slot this week we have a new installment of the Trumper Games! Yes, my pretties, it appears Tribute Manafort is going to prison! We will have all the juicy details for you! Taking the number 4 slot this week is also Donald Trump (4) because while this atrocity at the border is happening, he’s trying to justify it. In the number 5 slot is also Donald Trump (5) because while we’re all horrified about what’s happening at the border, our idiot-in-chief attempted to distract us with another shiny object, and we will tell you about it. In the number 6 slot this week is our weekly investigative piece “Top 10 Investigates” and this week we’re going to do a deep dive into Sinclair Broadcasting and their efforts to take over your local news! Expect local reports about it to be replaced with stories about your snowflake college student not needing a safe space! At number 7 is our weekly sermon of all things holy, Holy Shit, and this week our resident pastor is going to put on his tin foil hat and delve into the world of hardcore Christian conspiracy theories – and they’re even crazier than your regular run of the mill batshit crazy conspiracy theories! In the number 8 slot we’ve got another edition of “Beating A Dead Horse” and this week we’re going to delve into why conservatives think social media sites hate them. Not for the reasons you would think! In the number 9 (NEIN!!) slot we’ve got a new installment of “I Need A Drink” and this time around we’re going to get drunk and visit AlienCon in Pasadena, and really, these are my people! I cant quite put my finger on it. Finally this week we’ve got the next installment of Deep State Diaries and this week we’re going to show you how buildings are made by exploring the Department Of Public Works! And to end the first edition of our new look Top 10 – to kick off our LGBT pride month, we’ve got some live music for you from our good friends Imagine Dragons! They are returning to the show to promote their new documentary “Believer”. Enjoy! And as always don’t forget the key!

OK yeah there’s nothing funny about this first entry so we won’t even try. So instead what we’re going to do here is very carefully examine the “both sides do it” argument that conservatives have been forcing into the discussion. Plus we’ll also make fun of some of the crazier things being said by Trump supporters this week. So where do we even begin this week? Let’s start with something being said by a former first lady.

On Sunday, a day we as a nation set aside to honor fathers and the bonds of family, I was among the millions of Americans who watched images of children who have been torn from their parents. In the six weeks between April 19 and May 31, the Department of Homeland Security has sent nearly 2,000 children to mass detention centers or foster care. More than 100 of these children are younger than 4 years old. The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders.

I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.

Our government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso. These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history. We also know that this treatment inflicts trauma; interned Japanese have been two times as likely to suffer cardiovascular disease or die prematurely than those who were not interned.

Americans pride ourselves on being a moral nation, on being the nation that sends humanitarian relief to places devastated by natural disasters or famine or war. We pride ourselves on believing that people should be seen for the content of their character, not the color of their skin. We pride ourselves on acceptance. If we are truly that country, then it is our obligation to reunite these detained children with their parents -- and to stop separating parents and children in the first place.

Yeah I’m not sure this calls for a champagne toast, sir, but these people are fucking evil. I mean Bush did some pretty evil shit in his reign as the president, but in all fairness, he never stooped this low. But here’s what we can make fun of – the right wing justification of this horrifying act. Because these people are, simply put, fucking horrible.

Right-wing media are working overtime this week to defend the Trump administration’s policy of having U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers separate children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border and house those children in caged enclosures.

Over the course of the last week, numerous reports were published detailing the separation of children attempting to enter the country with their parents and the life-altering trauma those children, some just toddlers, endure while their parents are processed in separate facilities. As a result, Democrats have been demanding resignations and calling on the Trump administration to change the policy, which has prompted right-wing activists to swing into action in defense of the policy.

Laura Ingraham said that people expressing concern and outrage over children being detained in cages was “hilarious.” Ann Coulter went the Infowars route, choosing to cite a nonexistent New Yorker article to allege that the children speaking to media about the way ICE has treated their families were “child actors.” Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said, “This children and families being separated at the border? It is an entirely manufactured crisis. It’s entirely manufactured … It’s all about people attempting to invade our country, not emigrate here.” Similarly, Infowars called the mistreatment of migrant children “a giant hoax.”

Conservative pundit and Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro wrote that “Trump isn’t forcing children away from parents,” but is merely “enforcing the law on the books.” He continued, “Pretending that this is Japanese internment (as Laura Bush suggested) or the Holocaust (as General Michael Hayden suggested) is ridiculous.”

Senior Breitbart News investigative reporter Joel Pollak appeared on Breitbart’s morning radio program today and said that the children being held in cages at detainment centers are actually experiencing a better quality of life than they had before.
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/spin-cycle-right-wing-media-defend-the-chilling-way-ice-treats-immigrant-children/

Yeah BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Seriously, you’re calling torturing children “hilarious”. That is something that we cannot support as a supposedly “free” society. As we look on in horror, it only gets worse from there. Just ask Ann Coulter.

We currently live in a country where the young children of undocumented immigrants are being separated from their parents and kept in cages at the U.S.-Mexico border, while much of the Republican Party can barely feign interest. Now, we have vitriolic anti-immigrant commentator Ann Coulter going so far as to warn President Trump that the children were “child actors.”

Coulter appeared with Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle and former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz on yesterday’s episode of “The Next Revolution” with host Steve Hilton, where she defended anti-immigrant rhetoric like the phrase “anchor baby” and launched into a rant in which she accused immigrant children being interviewed on TV of being coached actors.

“These child actors weeping and crying on all the other networks 24/7 right now—do not fall for it, Mr. President. I get very nervous about the president getting his news from TV,” Coulter said.

Hilton tried numerous times to interrupt Coulter and change the topic to no avail. Coulter went on to source her claim in a New Yorker article that appears not to exist, or at least not with the details Coulter describes.

“They describe how these kids, these kids are being coached,” Coulter said. “They’re given scripts to read by liberals, according to the New Yorker. Don’t fall for the actor children.”
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/ann-coulter-calls-immigrant-children-ice-separated-from-their-parents-child-actors/

Holy shit! Ann went full Infowars, and you never go full Infowars, under any circumstances! Look this is unmistakable cruelty. You might as well make a run from the border! Yeah that’s right, I used an old Taco Bell slogan from the 1990s, what are you going to do? Fight me about it? Because I will throw fucking down, their evil is making me that angry. I mean just when you think they couldn’t stoop any lower, it gets worse!

Fox News opinion host Laura Ingraham sought to minimize the controversy surrounding the Trump administration's enforcement of a "zero-tolerance" policy on Monday night. That policy leads to adults being criminally prosecuted when they cross the US-Mexico border. Any children traveling with them are taken away to separate facilities.

Those family separations have led to thousands of children being housed in detention centers — some of which are warehouse-style facilities when the children are kept behind fenced-off barriers that resemble cages. Ingraham compared them to "summer camps" on her program Monday night.

Ingraham criticized the bipartisan backlash over the family separations, derisively calling it "faux liberal outrage." Critics have likened the rapidly growing child detention centers — in which some kids appear in pictures looking distraught and inconsolable — to a human-rights crisis.

Oh ha ha ha ha ha… so fucking hilarious isn’t it? They’re in summer camp! They’re having the time of their lives with their new BFFs! Yeah fuck you, Laura. Because here’s things that are really going on, this ain’t summer camp. I’d love to say what I think should happen to Jeff Sessions and Trump but I’d prefer not to get a visit from the Secret Service any time soon. So I’ll just leave with this. I’m pretty sure this is what hell looks like.

They’d had a plan: Elsa Johana Ortiz Enriquez packed up what little she had in Guatemala and traveled across Mexico with her 8-year-old son, Anthony. In a group, they rafted across the Rio Grande into Texas. From there they intended to join her boyfriend, Edgar, who’d found a construction job in the United States.

Except it all went wrong. The Border Patrol was waiting as they made their way from the border on May 26, and soon mother and son were in a teeming detention center in southern Texas. The next part unfolded so swiftly that, even now, Ms. Ortiz cannot grasp it: Anthony was sent to a shelter for migrant children. And she was put on a plane back to Guatemala.

“I am completely devastated,” Ms. Ortiz, 25, said in one of a series of video interviews last week from her family home in Guatemala. Her eyes swollen from weeping and her voice subdued, she said she had no idea when or how she would see her son again.

As the federal government continues to separate families as part of a stepped-up enforcement program against those who cross the border illegally, the authorities say that parents are not supposed to be deported without their children. But immigration lawyers say that has happened in several cases. And the separations can be traumatic for parents who now have no clear path to recovering their children.

OK moving on. This is a comedy show, not a horror show. So where do we go next? If you haven’t noticed there is a war going on for the future of my home state of California, and no, it’s not a good thing, sir. So for those of you who don’t live in my great state, there’s a war on the liberalism of this state and a plan to split California into 3 states and while we have mainly just talked about it, this could become a reality in November.

Troublemaker Tim Draper’s latest proposal to split California into three states has some appeal for Northerners. At least it does for me.

That doesn’t mean it’s a smart idea. It’s impractical, a fantasy and doomed. But it does have an allure.

In November, Californians will have an opportunity to vote on whether to split the state in thirds because the venture capitalist’s initiative qualified for the ballot last week. So this is no longer just an idea for idle chit-chat. It’s potentially achievable, if highly remote.

Look, here’s one attraction for a Sacramentan: The new “Northern California” would be the second-wealthiest state in the nation, ranking only below Connecticut in terms of per capita personal income. The Legislative Analyst’s Office pegged it at $63,000, based on 2015 data, the latest available. For the entire state it was $54,000.

That wealth is because of the San Francisco Bay Area, especially Silicon Valley.

What it means is there’d be fewer people unemployed and on public assistance than in the other two new states: Los Angeles-dominated “California” and weirdly drawn “Southern California.” There’d be less northern tax money spent on the safety net and more for universities, transportation, parks and other lifestyle goodies.

We already did that one. But I guess it’s that new theater smell. Yeah we’re still working out the kinks of our new set. But anyway this whole plan to split California into 3 states is certifiably insane and its’s nothing more than a partisan power grab. I mean we’re dealing with people who would literally take candy from a baby, and they don’t need an excuse.

This November, Californians will head to the polls to vote on a peculiar ballot measure that asks, "Hey, how do you feel about splitting into three states?"

This is really happening.

A proposal to divide California into three states — Northern California, California, and Southern California — qualified this week to appear on the ballot in November's general election. It received over 458,000 valid signatures, more than the number required by state law to get on the ballot, thanks to an ambitious campaign called Cal 3 and financial backing from Silicon Valley tycoon Tim Draper, an early investor in Tesla and Skype.

If a majority of California voters who cast ballots agree to divvy up the state into three, the plan would then go onto the US Congress for approval.

There's bad news for anyone in support of this initiative: Even if the measure gathers enough support at the polls, it would still be incredibly difficult for California to pull off.

All states have a special process for amending their state constitution. In some states, two houses of congress need need to approve a ballot measure before residents get a chance to weigh in at the polls. California is an oddball. The state's initiative process lets a vote by the people pass a measure into law, without the blessing of the state legislatures.

If *ONLY* we could call it High Cal and Lo Cal, that would be hilarious. Of course most people don’t vote for comedy. But this guy is doing it because one, he’s a billionaire with a lot of money to blow. I mean why can’t these guys ever spend their money for good? Instead they have to spend it on some evil shit, and this is about as evil and stupid as it gets. It’s basically a giant “fuck you” to liberals.

A Silicon Valley billionaire has amassed enough signatures to have his proposal splitting California into three parts on the state’s ballot in November.

Venture Capitalist Timothy Draper filed more than 402,468 valid signatures in all of the state’s counties for his proposal, qualifying it for the general election ballot in November, California’s Secretary of State said on Tuesday. Draper had actually garnered 605,026 signatures; a random sampling found 76 percent were projected to be valid.

Under the proposal, which Draper submitted to the state Attorney General’s office last September, California would be split into: Northern California, which would consist of 40 counties; California, which would be composed of six counties, including Los Angeles; and Southern California, which would house the remaining 12 counties. If the state’s residents vote for the proposal, California’s legislature would have a year, beginning in January of 2019, to implement it.

“The citizens of the whole state would be better served by three smaller state governments while preserving the historical boundaries of the various counties, cities, and towns,” Draper wrote to the Attorney General’s office when explaining his proposal.

Excuse me a minute… yeah this guy will probably be the poster boy for why we have videos about why this is a bad idea in the future. But what does this mean? Why even have an initiative this batshit crazy on the ballot? Like we said some men just like to watch the world burn. And most of those men are republicans. But this is crazy, evil and stupid at the same time.

The Trumper Games: Manafort’s Revenge
[br]
[br]

Happy Trumper Games everybody! We have some new and exciting developments! So another firing means another edition of the Trumper Games! But this week it isn’t just a mere firing as it is something much worse - a jailing! Yes, it involves Tribute Manafort from the 14th district, who many say was the first tribute eliminated from the games! But how can you eliminate a tribute who’s already been eliminated, I ask you? That is the question on the table! Since the tribute has already been eliminated from the games, there is only one answer!

Paul Manafort, President Trump’s ex-campaign manager, arrived in court from his luxury condo on Friday morning with a confident swing in his step, even a faint grin.

By the time he left, through a different door, escorted to jail where he’ll remain through the end of his trial, his face had noticeably darkened.

That difference could alter the entire course of his case, legal experts said: The fact that he’ll face trial while incarcerated makes him far more likely to cooperate with investigators, according to former federal prosecutors and other observers who spoke to VICE News.

“If he’s convicted, he will die in jail,” Paul Rosenzweig, a senior counsel for the Ken Starr investigation into former President Bill Clinton, told VICE News. “He’s now going to come under much greater pressure to do something to immediately ameliorate his problem, and the only thing he can do is plead guilty and offer to cooperate.”
https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/4358qn/prison-is-going-go-make-paul-manafort-much-easier-to-flip-prosecutors-say

Yeah I think that is how most of us feel watching this shit show! But Charlie, where is my champagne? And don’t bring me the cheap stuff either! So Tribute Manafort is in jail now and that’s where most of the Trumper Games contestants should be! But guess what? The president can issue a pardon which means that Tribute Manafort can get right back in the games!

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Sunday the president might pardon his jailed, onetime campaign chairman and others ensnared in the Russia investigation once special counsel Robert Mueller’s work wraps up, if he believed they were treated “unfairly.”

Until then, consideration of clemency is unnecessary, Giuliani said, as the White House presses to bring the yearlong investigation to an end.

Giuliani denied that Trump was trying to send a message to Paul Manafort, who was the 2016 chairman for nearly five months, or others to refrain from cooperating with prosecutors. The former New York City mayor suggested that an end to the investigation could be in sight one way or the other — either by undercutting the Mueller’s inquiry as illegitimate, or if necessary, by agreeing to a Trump interview with prosecutors under limited conditions.

“The president is not going to issue pardons in this investigation,” Giuliani said. “Because you just cloud what is becoming now a very clear picture of an extremely unfair investigation with no criminality involved in it of any kind.”

But, he added, “When it’s over, hey, he’s the president of the United States. He retains his pardon power. Nobody is taking that away from him. He can pardon, in his judgment.”
https://www.denverpost.com/2018/06/18/will-trump-issue-pardons-russia-investigation/

Oh you’re bad! You’re really bad! And damn it Charlie, why must you bring me the cheap champagne again? But what awaits the fate of Tribute Manafort? Is he going to be tucked away in a white collar resort prison or is he going to a far worse kind of jail?

Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, has become notorious for his extravagant spending, and for the alleged wide-ranging corrupt practices that helped fund it. But after being found in violation of his parole on Friday, Manafort will have to get used to the much humbler lifestyle of an inmate.

As detailed in an in-depth new report by CNN, Manafort’s tie, belt, and wallet were immediately confiscated after a judge rescinded his parole Friday. Manafort, 69, was then transported to Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Va., a county jail which also sometimes houses federal inmates like Manafort. The jail has been described online by apparent insiders as a “hell hole” where “inmates are treated worse than livestock.”

Those harsh comments are only partly reflected in the jail’s public record. CNN found the facility, though currently holding more than 500 people, isn’t considered overcrowded. The jail has, though, faced accusations of medical mistreatment and failing to prevent an assault on an inmate, and four inmates have died there since 2011, according to the Washington Post.

The place isn’t without its upsides, though. According to a view on Google Earth, Northern Neck is surrounded by thick forest, and Manafort’s housing in a “VIP” unit might make his stay a bit more pleasant. Both NFL star Michael Vick and musician Chris Brown have reportedly been incarcerated in that section of the facility during their stints in jail. And according to reports, Manafort will be able to receive mail, make outgoing phone calls, and see visitors – though only for one hour a week.
http://fortune.com/2018/06/17/paul-manafort-northern-neck-regional-jail/

Yes so there’s a much different kind of prison that Manafort and everyone in the Trump administration we wish would go to! Thank you! But guess what? We’re going to keep going until the president is eliminated – because remember, in the Trumper Games, the president isn’t just the host of the games, he’s also a contestant!

George Papadopoulos. Michael Flynn. Alexander van der Zwaan. Paul Manafort. Some of the most high-profile men caught up in the Russia investigation all have one thing in common: They’ve learned firsthand that the cover-up can also be a crime.

All four men have either decided to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller or have been sent to jail—not because it was proven that any of them colluded with Russia or attempted to obstruct justice, but because they lied to the FBI or tried to influence the outcome of the investigation in some significant way. Their fates could send a clear signal to the president, who is weighing whether or not to sit down with Mueller for an interview: If you lie to federal agents, there will be consequences.

Papadopoulos, a foreign-policy adviser on President Trump’s campaign, and Flynn, a top campaign surrogate who went on to serve as Trump’s national-security adviser, both pleaded guilty within months of one another to lying to the FBI about the nature of their contacts with foreign nationals. Van der Zwaan, a lawyer who helped produce a report friendly to Ukraine’s ousted President Viktor Yanukovych at Manafort’s behest, went to jail for a month after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about his contact with two former Manafort associates. And Manafort, Trump’s campaign chairman, was sent to jail on Friday—not as a result of the original charges against him, which included money laundering, bank fraud, and tax fraud, but because he engaged in witness tampering and tried to obstruct justice, according to prosecutors..

Donald Trump
[br]
[br]

Now that we have this horrible atrocity going on at the border, the one guy who’s willing to defend it is of course our idiot in chief, Donald J. Trump. Any other president, this would be an impeachable offense, and Trump should not be allowed to get away with it scot free. Let’s face facts - Donald Trump is an absolute monster, he’s a fucking jerk, and he’s surrounded by monsters and jerks. But what makes somebody become a monster?

Imagine this scene: Tens of thousands of people, mostly families with children, are labeled by the government as a threat to our nation, used as political tools by opportunistic politicians, and caught in a vast gray zone where their civil and human rights are erased by the presumption of universal guilt. Thousands are moved around to makeshift detention centers and sites, where camps are thrown together with more regard to the bottom line than the humanity of the new residents.

That is America today, at our southern border, which asylum-seekers and undocumented migrants alike are seeking to cross. But it is also America in late 1941, in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, when overnight my community, my family, and I became the enemy because we happened to look like those who had dropped the bombs. And yet, in one core, horrifying way this is worse. At least during the internment of Japanese-Americans, I and other children were not stripped from our parents. We were not pulled screaming from our mothers’ arms. We were not left to change the diapers of younger children by ourselves.

Photos of children in cages and camps today so strongly evoke the wartime past that former First Lady Laura Bush drew a stark parallel in an op-ed in the Washington Post. “These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history,” Bush wrote. She reminded us that there are dark consequences to such camps for their residents: “This treatment inflicts trauma; interned Japanese have been two times as likely to suffer cardiovascular disease or die prematurely than those who were not interned.”

When a government acts capriciously, especially against a powerless and much-reviled group, it is hard to describe the terror and anxiety. There is nowhere to turn, because the only people with the power to help have trained their guns and dogs upon you. You are without rights, held without charge or trial. The world is upside down, information-less, and indifferent or even hostile to your plight.

And yet, with hideous irony, I can still say, “At least during the internment …”
http://foreignpolicy.com/2018/06/19/at-least-during-the-internment-are-words-i-thought-id-never-utter-family-separation-children-border/

That’s the Hulk, and that was from George Takei – a guy who lived through this sort of unspeakable horror before. Now here’s a guy who seems to have forgotten history – Donald J. Trump, a guy who is not only defending this, he’s doubling down!

President Donald Trump on Tuesday quintupled down on the lie he has repeatedly told by once again falsely blaming Democrats for his own immigration policy.

“Democrats are the problem,” Trump wrote. “They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13. They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!”

In fact, the current policy of separating immigrant parents from their children is entirely due to actions by the Trump administration. Administration officials including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and aide Stephen Miller have even publicly stated that the policy is being used as a purported “deterrent” against immigrants trying to enter the country illegally.

Additionally, Trump’s use of the word “infest” to describe immigrants’ behavior is part of a broader pattern of dehumanizing rhetoric aimed at foreigners. Earlier this year, Trump said that undocumented immigrants in the United States were “animals” who couldn’t even be described as “human,” although the White House later insisted that the president was only talking about MS-13 gang members, not immigrants as a whole.

I would like to tell you where you can shove that thumb, but it’s the same place where all those Big Macs you eat come out of, and it would get stuck. Yeah this shit is making me furious if you can’t tell my poker face. Oh and then here’s the fucking irony of this whole thing! Guess what? There’s no laws! No laws regarding this horror, and Trump is enforcing something that doesn’t exist. I got to move on, this is making me too fucking angry.

Is there a law requiring the separation of immigrant families at the border?

No.

But crossing the U.S. border without a visa or other authorization and between official ports of entry has been a misdemeanor crime for decades.

Some say it was first proposed in 1929, when Coleman Livingston Blease, a pro-lynching Democratic senator from South Carolina, pushed it to cut down on Mexican immigration.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, speaking on "Meet the Press," argued that the policy is a function of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. Congress that year was controlled by Democrats and the president was Democrat Harry Truman.

Either way, the federal criminal statute was rarely used until the last decade, reserved instead for only the most egregious offenders or those with serious criminal records.

We need some music for this one.

Sigh… is this… is this really what we need right now? More ways for humanity to keep murdering each other and now we can do it from space? So while we’re all extremely horrified at what is happening at the border thanks to Trump and the idiot network, Trump has a new shiny object to distract us with – think of it like the dog from Up! getting distracted by squirrels. This is what we here at the Top 10 Home Offices like to call “the squirrel effect”.

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has ordered the creation of a new military branch, adding the "Space Force" to the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

"It is not enough to merely have an American presence in space, we must have American dominance in space. Very importantly I'm hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces, that is a big statement," Trump said at a meeting of the National Space Council on Monday. "We are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the space force, separate but equal, it is going to be something."

Chief Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement that the military will work with Congress and other stakeholders to move forward with the policy.

"We understand the President's guidance. Our Policy Board will begin working on this issue, which has implications for intelligence operations for the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy," White said in the statement.

Hey look everybody a squirrel! Although I will say that if there’s no sitcom being created tomorrow called “Space Farce”, I will have lost all faith in the internet! Thank you! So why do we need a military NASA and what’s the point of announcing this now?

President Donald Trump used a term from US segregationist history to describe the relationship between the Air Force and his newest military branch, the Space Force, calling it "separate but equal."

"We must have American dominance in space. Very importantly, I'm hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish the Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces. That's a big step," he said in the White House East Room during a meeting of his National Space Council Monday.

"We are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the Space Force: separate but equal, it is going to be something so important," he said.

The term "separate but equal" became a legal precedent following an 1896 Supreme Court ruling Plessy v. Ferguson that said the use of racially separate facilities, if equal, was not discrimination. That legal rationale was deemed unconstitutional through a series of Supreme Court decisions, ending with 1954's Brown v. Board of Education.

In addition to calling for the Space Force, Trump signed Space Policy Directive -- 3 on Monday, part of his administration's push to lead in the space space.
Trump previously floated the idea of adding a "Space Force" branch to the US military -- a concept that has received some support on Capitol Hill but drawn skepticism from the Pentagon.

Wait why… how… who… ah fuck it, this is Trump, you can’t question his logic or it will cause one’s head to literally explode. Yeah think the guy in Scanners for a minute. So let’s explore the possibilities of what could happen if humanity waged a war in space. Let’s just say it would end faster than it would start.

For decades, the idea of extending Earthly wars into orbit has been taboo. The prospect of nuclear-armed satellites ready to drop on our heads was simply too terrifying. Then there were the implications of all the debris …

But, as more and more nations gain the ability to loft satellites into space, the old treaties between the United States and Russia have become increasingly irrelevant.

India. Pakistan. North Korea. All have recently joined the space race.

China, meanwhile, has been actively testing missiles capable of destroying satellites — the most recent being in January this year.

The implications are terrifying.

There's already plenty of deadly space junk hurtling about in orbit above our heads.

A simple fleck of paint — travelling at immense speeds — was enough to deeply crater a Space Shuttle's reinforced glass windscreen.
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12073828

Hmmm… competing with those three countries at the helm, maybe we need to put the cone of shame on Trump for a while. I mean could you just picture that? He’d have to find a new way to eat cheeseburgers in bed. So why is he interested in exploring space when he hasn’t left the confines of his bed since he took office?

As private companies plan to send thousands of satellites into space to expand broadband internet services and for other uses, the Trump administration is taking steps to ensure that space debris doesn't get out of control.

Why it matters: We are beginning to see a large uptick in the number and diversity of satellites being launched into space by governments and private companies, such as Elon Musk's SpaceX. If no one modernizes the rules governing space, then there's the potential for overcrowding at various altitudes above Earth. This overcrowding could hold back the burgeoning space industry, and threaten national security.

What's next: On Monday, the president signed a space policy directive that gives various government agencies clearer roles in governing space.
“The space operating environment are becoming increasingly crowded. Orbital debris poses a growing threat to space operations."
— Scott Pace, the executive secretary of the National Space Council, on a call with reporters.

The details: The new policy directive requires that updates be made to orbital debris mitigation practices, as well as new guidelines for designing and operating satellites.

Top 10 Investigates: The Sinclair Merger
[br]
[br]

It’s time to investigate beyond the headlines. This is Top 10 Investigates.

One of the world’s largest mergers has recently escaped the headlines in the wake of the end of Net Neutrality and the other horrors of the Trump Administration. Sinclair Broadcasting is about to take over some 200 additional TV stations by purchasing Tribune Media. Now that is up for a vote by the FCC – and one guy in particular whose vote will really matter – Ajit Pai, the same guy who ended Net Neutrality. So what is at stake?

The Federal Communications Commission’s chairman is said to be planning a vote next month on limits to how many TV stations a company can own, rules he has said are too restrictive and that could factor into Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc.’s planned purchase of Tribune Media Co.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is poised to schedule a July 12 vote on altering rules that cap broadcasters’ reach at 39 percent of the national audience, according to two people briefed on the plan, who who spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposal hasn’t been made public.

A vote next month could head off a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Washington that is considering a challenge to part of the existing rules. The case threatens to push Sinclair over the existing national ownership cap if it buys Tribune.

Proposals from Pai, an appointee of President Donald Trump, are all but certain to pass with votes from the Republican majority he leads. Pai hasn’t publicly recommended a new limit and details of his proposal could not be learned.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-13/fcc-said-to-plan-rule-change-before-court-can-upend-sinclair-bid

Except people do care, sir. In fact this thing is so controversial that in order to prevent state run television from coming to the United States it’s united lawmakers on both the left side and the right side to squash this merger before it becomes a problem.

The Donald Trump-backing Sinclair Broadcast Group’s pending $3.9 billion acquisition of Tribune Media, creating a local television station cartel of unprecedented power and reach, has triggered a mind-meld of liberals and conservatives that would otherwise have been unthinkable in the present era of polarized politics.

The result is a possibly heartening (and, let’s face it, bizarre) alliance between the usual suspects—that is, left-leaning public interest groups and elected Democrats who’d be expected to oppose any such merger—and right-leaning media outlets such as Christopher Ruddy’s Newsmax, the San Diego-based Herring family’s One America News, Glenn Beck’s The Blaze, and even the hard-right former House Republican Majority Leader, Tom “The Hammer” DeLay.

“Don’t get me wrong: I appreciate the conservative perspective of Sinclair, and support its First Amendment right to espouse its views,” DeLay wrote in a recent Politico op-ed titled “Why Trump Should Block the Sinclair Merger.”

This would be a highly unlikely outcome given the president’s recent tweet: “So funny to watch Fake News Networks, among the most dishonest groups of people I have ever dealt with, criticize Sinclair Broadcasting for being biased. Sinclair is far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke.”

Still, DeLay added, “This transaction would set a terrible precedent by opening the door for ABC, CBS, and NBC to also buy many more TV stations. At that point, nothing can stop liberal Northeast corporate executives from telling homes in the heartland what to think.”
https://www.thedailybeast.com/media-foes-on-left-and-right-team-up-to-fight-the-sinclairtribune-merger

&t=20s

In fact, should this merger go through, you can expect far more “quality” reporting from Sinclair broadcaster Mark Hyman, who made that snowflake video we just showed. But guess who is in love with this idea? Why it’s the guy who we currently call president – Donald J. Trump. You know how much he loves his loyalty.

Sinclair Broadcast Group, which has a $3.9 billion takeover awaiting a decision by federal regulators, just got a vote of confidence from President Donald Trump.

It wasn't specifically about the pending deal to acquire Tribune Media. Instead, the president was defending Sinclair against charges of bias in the wake of a video that went viral over the weekend.

"So funny to watch Fake News Networks, among the most dishonest groups of people I have ever dealt with, criticize Sinclair Broadcasting for being biased," Trump tweeted Monday. "Sinclair is far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke."

That video in question, from Deadspin, shows how Sinclair had its news anchors across the country read the same script warning of alleged bias in reporting by other media outlets. Last month, CNN first reported that Sinclair was requiring journalists at stations across the US to read scripted editorials condemning other news outlets for pushing "fake stories."
https://www.cnet.com/news/sinclair-media-awaiting-massive-broadcast-merger-gets-trump-defense/

Yes, we are reminded here at Top 10 Investigates that this is the Trump administration. It is where logic does not apply and all rules of logic and reason are thrown out the window. But really, would you expect the pro-Trump FCC, the one where they voted to end Net Neutrality?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will take new comments from the public on Sinclair Broadcast Group’s $3.9 billion bid for Tribune Media.

The agency is reopening its review of the merger for public comments after the two companies proposed to sell off some local stations in an effort to bring the deal in line with media ownership restrictions.

The public will have until July 12 to weigh in on the docket.

Many Democrats have urged the FCC and the Department of Justice to block the deal, arguing that it will give the conservative-leaning broadcast giant too much reach, while shutting out independent media outlets.

Jessica Rosenworcel, a Democrat on the commission, said the agency should not be moving forward with its review while a court is considering a lawsuit against the FCC over media deregulations that could affect the merger.
http://thehill.com/policy/technology/388658-fcc-will-take-public-comment-on-sinclair-tribune-merger

But is this really what you call “winning”? I mean is it what we need right now? Sure, Trump could block the merger, but considering we all know how much he loves his ass getting kissed, he probably won’t .

The biggest media news this year has been the mega-merger of Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tribune Media, which would create the largest broadcast company in history—if antitrust regulators approve the deal. Republicans have been largely supportive of the move, not just because of the principle that the government should stay out of business decisions, but also for political reasons: Conservatives are excited about the prospect of a national broadcast giant with a distinct right-leaning perspective.

In the short term, they’re right to be excited: The merged broadcaster would have 215 TV stations covering more than 72 percent of U.S. households, an unprecedented reach into Americans’ living rooms. But in the long run, the move could well backfire, creating huge political problems for Republicans and President Donald Trump. Opening the door to the Sinclair deal could pave the way for networks such as NBC, CBS and ABC to consolidate their own empires even further, creating huge liberal broadcasters that dwarf the size and power of the merged Sinclair-Tribune company.

In many ways, the conservative revolution owes its early success to the ownership limits placed on big liberal media companies. When Ronald Reagan won the presidency in a 1980 landslide, many credited his win on restrictions against the liberal media’s ability to own most of the local broadcast TV stations throughout the United States. At that time, a single entity could only own seven broadcast television stations. Compare that to the 200-plus stations Sinclair will own if this transaction is approved. Then-candidate Reagan was able to reach America through a diverse group of broadcast owners, bypassing the liberal bias of New York City network executives at NBC, CBS and ABC.

Holy Shit
[br]
[br]

Gather around my fair brothers and sisters! For it’s time to take a seat in the pew and pass the collection plate, as the Holy Church of the Top 10 has convened and it’s time for our weekly reminder to inform you of why the holiest among us are also the most full of:

So my fair congregation, while the DEVIL sits in power and the people who are enabling SATAN are sitting in control of the White House, Senate, and Congress, how is it they are able to retain their ungodly powers? Well it’s from the use of what one MIGHT call a “conspiracy theory”. Well since the election of the Dark One to the highest office in the land, the conspiracy theorists have come out of the woodwork to explain things that would make even the good LAWRD JAYSUS cringe!

Paul McGuire, author of the book “Trumpocalypse: The End-Times President, a Battle Against the Globalist Elite, and the Countdown to Armageddon,” appeared recently on the “Prophecy In The News” program where he asserted that the United States government is controlled by a massive secret network of Satanic “practicing pedophiles.”

“The reality is in America, we do have a hidden, invisible shadow government,” McGuire said. “It’s true and there is a trail of verifiable, impeccable evidence that proves it’s true.”

McGuire said that the media is “fake news because they’re not talking about the single most important story in America right now and for the last thirty years and that is simply this: At the very highest levels of government, culture, entertainment, media, politics—both in the United States and Europe—there currently exists and has existed for at least 30 or 40 years at a very high level, a largely hidden network of practicing pedophiles.”

“I would be failing as an American citizen … and as a Christian,” McGuire insisted, “if I didn’t tell you this. But there are high-level people who belong to a satanic network, they’re practicing satanists and one of the things that they’re into—and I’m sorry to say this, I don’t even want to talk about this … They abuse children emotionally, psychologically and very brutally, sadistically, including murder, in their sexual rape and torture and mutilation of these young children.”

Well, a “little crazy” might be an understatement there. I mean Brother Paul, have you seen what’s going on at the border there? You might want to rethink what you are saying. Oh who am I kidding? You cannot use logic and reason with those who voted for the DARK ONE. But of course it’s all part of GAWD’s plan for America, you heathens!

Paul Begley is a right-wing pastor and rabid conspiracy theorist who insists that First Lady Melania Trump ordered the White House to be “completely exorcised” before moving in, that Barack Obama is leading an Illuminati plot to assassinate President Trump, that Hillary Clinton intended to hand America over to the Illuminati in preparation for the rise of the Antichrist, and that Kate Spade, Anthony Boudain and Larry Kudlow were all possibly targets of “Illuminati assassins.”

Corey Stewart, the Confederacy-loving politician who won the Republican primary earlier this week and will now challenge Sen. Tim Kaine in November, appeared on Begley’s webcast several weeks ago, where he stated that he makes it his mission to say something “politically incorrect” every day simply to offend liberals.

Fresh off his primary victory, Stewart appeared on Begley’s webcast again today during which he secured Begley’s endorsement after declaring that he is running for the Senate in order to ensure that America will do “what God wants us to do.”

The interview kicked off with a discussion of the segment Stewart did last night with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, during which he was grilled about the support he has received from, and his ties to, numerous anti-Semites and white nationalists.

Even the Holiest One is telling you that you’re off the message here! I mean this shit is crazy folks and it does go against what our good book teaches! And I’ve seen and read and memorized the verse, I should know better than anybody. But while the holiest among us have the wrong idea about the environment, especially the guy who runs it, it may be their only hope in well, destroying the planet!

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has been embroiled in so many ethical scandals, from the ridiculous—having a government employee drive him from one Ritz-Carlton to another in search of his favorite hand lotion—to the seriously swampy—using staff to try to get his wife a job—that even some conservatives are calling him out and demanding that he go. But Pruitt may have a trump card, so to speak, in the support he gets from the president’s most important constituency: the Religious Right.

At last week’s Road to Majority conference, organized by Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition, Reed called Pruitt “a dear friend of faith and freedom” and promised his support:

You know, I know the left and the media like to go after this man. But the other day at a Cabinet meeting President Trump turned to him and said, ‘Scott, I want you to know, we’ve got your back. And you’re doing a great job.’ And we’ve got his back as well.

In his introduction, Reed reminded activists that Pruitt worked on religious liberty issues with the Rutherford Institute, which Reed described as a forerunner to today’s Religious Right legal groups like the Alliance Defending Freedom. Reed praised Pruitt for his record as Oklahoma’s attorney general, when he sued the EPA 14 times, and said he has brought “sanity” to an agency Reed said had been notorious for regulatory overreach.

And that is a good question there – the president said what??? Well I never imagined that supporters of the Dark One would be that crazy and stupid. But this is 2018, and they are that crazy and stupid – for it says in the good book that being that batshit crazy is a SIN!!!! It is one of the most egregious of SINS!!! Can I get an amen??? But apparently GAWD is using the Dark One to enact HIS agenda through the use of stealth technology! Did you know that?

During last night’s “Truth & Liberty” webcast, right-wing pastor Andrew Wommack said that God is brilliantly using President Trump to stealthily enact the Religious Right’s agenda without raising alarms that conservative Christians are trying to impose a theocracy on this nation.

Wommack and his guests were trying to answer a question from a viewer who wanted to know how evangelicals can support Trump despite his “immoral actions, behavior, character, and words,” to which they responded by insisting that “God is using Trump because He loves America, He loves the Christians, and He loves everybody that lives here.”

Wommack said that regardless of the fact that Trump is deeply flawed and “is always saying something offensive,” evangelicals can and must continue to support him because “he has done more to advance and protect Christianity than any president in our lifetime.”

Wommack went on to claim that he has a friend who serves as a religious adviser to the president who knows that Trump has been “born again” but has been instructed to keep his conversion quiet.

“I know at least three people who have prayed with Trump and say he got born again,” Wommack said. “This man believes Trump did get saved but he counseled him not to make this an issue because people would look at it as that is his conversion experience so that he could sweep his past under the rug.”

Beating A Dead Horse: Conservatives Vs Social Media
[br]
[br]

It’s time for another edition of:

There’s nothing a conservative loves more than some good ol’ fashioned trash talking. In fact they have made it a part of their lifestyle and that’s how they win elections. They talk so much shit about people they could easily fill two landfills, a raw sewage treatment facility, and a fleet of manure trucks. Which is why they can’t stand it when people start fighting back against their bullshit. In the social media cold war that’s been going on since about 2009, conservatives have been completely paranoid about the way their bullshit is getting treated on social media sites. And guess what? It ain’t good, fellas! You can talk all the crap you want in private, but when you take that shit public, you’d better be prepared for getting as much as you can dish out. Just ask Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook is sending some of its top executives to meet with Republican leaders following complaints about anti-conservative bias on social media, the company confirmed to The Hill on Friday.

The officials from Facebook’s public policy team will be meeting with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel and Brad Parscale, President Trump’s 2020 campaign manager.

A McCarthy spokeswoman said that the meeting would focus on “continued issues with conservative censorship on their website.”

The meeting was first reported by Axios.

Facebook will be represented by a group of former GOP officials: Kevin Martin, who served as Federal Communications Commission chairman during the George W. Bush administration; Joel Kaplan, Bush’s former deputy chief of staff; Greg Maurer, who was an aide to former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio); and former Republican digital strategist Katie Harbath.

Facebook and other social media companies have faced criticism from conservatives over accusations that the industry is biased against conservative speech. The meeting comes after Parscale and McDaniel sent a letter to Facebook and Twitter in May. And McCarthy has become an increasingly vocal critic of tech companies, even though he’s received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Silicon Valley.

Nah. See here’s the thing conservatives – you’re not getting censored because you’re a conservative posting on a social media site. You’re getting censored because you’re hateful dicks! But the accusations don’t stop there! Because once again they love some trash talking!

Donald Trump's 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee are asking Facebook and Twitter for assurances that they will safeguard access to "fair content" and guarantee that conservative voices are not censored or buried.

Trump's 2020 Campaign Manager Brad Parscale and RNC chair Ronna McDaniel made the requests to Facebook and Twitter in a letter sent Thursday, which they later posted online.

Parscale and McDaniel wrote that they have grown concerned after media reports over the past few years and claims from users that Facebook staff had "manipulated" the trending section to exclude conservative news and that some conservative personalities have had their content suppressed. On Twitter, they said that conservative users have "accused the company of unfairly targeting them," by purging their accounts of followers in an attempt to fight fake news.

"We recognize that Facebook and Twitter operate in liberal corporate cultures. However, rampant political bias is inappropriate for a widely used public forum," McDaniel and Parscale wrote.

Accusations that social media censors conservative views has hounded the companies for years. Both Facebook and Twitter are based in the largely liberal enclaves around San Francisco, California, and their executives are often aligned with liberal causes.
http://money.cnn.com/2018/05/24/media/parscale-twitter-facebook-letter/index.html

Exactly. See here’s the thing – it’s not them! It’s you! You know when you sign up on these services, they have this thing called a “terms of service” agreement that you probably didn’t read. If you did read it, most of them have a rule that says “don’t be hateful”. See every time you post on David Hogg’s feed about how he’s helping the NRA sell more guns, or telling mass shooting victims to go eat Tide Pods, or how Hillary Clinton sold out the children of Haiti and then gave money to her foundation, post every bullshit conspiracy theory like Seth Rich and Pizzagate, retweet nonsense from QANON about “the Storm”, or post poorly photoshopped pictures of Hillary pooping her pants, or every time you call us idiots, or libtards, or say liberalism is a mental disorder, and you wonder why your account gets banned, you might want to examine your own life. You can make all these claims about how you’re being censored, about how there’s a bias, but really, you’re just hateful dicks! You know, kind of like when your ex breaks up with you and says “it’s not you, it’s me”, she really means it’s you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Such is the case here.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is calling out social media and technology giants over what he sees as anti-conservative bias.

On Tuesday night, McCarthy, a leading candidate to replace retiring Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), tweeted a video from a speech in which he lashes out at Amazon, Facebook and Twitter, accusing them of trying to censor conservatives.

“Social media is being rigged to censor conservative voices. We will not be silenced,” the No. 2 House Republican wrote in the tweet.

McCarthy, whose district is in Southern California, frequently turns to Silicon Valley for campaign contributions. Corporate PACs for Facebook, Google and Amazon have all given him $5,000 each since 2017.

In his video, McCarthy references an incident where Amazon removed a conservative organization that had been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center from a program that allows users to donate a portion of their purchases to a charity organization of their choice. He also noted an episode last year where Twitter briefly blocked an anti-abortion campaign ad from Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).

Hey McCarthy – did you miss the key word there? Hate? Yeah that’s where you might want to take a look at your own party and some of the things they post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. See, hate has a conservative bias to it! Always has and always will. You know you always tell us to let go of shit, but why don’t you? You know while you’re busy figuring out new ways to troll us, we’re busy doing that thing called winning elections! People have had enough of your hateful ways. Even Donald Trump Jr has chimed in on the paranoia, but really stop beating around the bush – you’re hateful dicks. Either own the hate, or stop the abuse. Your choice.

Donald Trump Jr., President Trump's oldest son who helps the Trump Organization, posted on Instagram Friday he had a "crazy drop-off in new followers," which he said was due to search results of his name.

He posted a video of the top searches associated with #donaldtrumpjr, which included #donaldtrumpjrisatoll, #donaldtrumpjrcolludedwithrussia and #donaldtrumpjrisaliar. A more positive result, #donaldtrumpjr2024, also showed up.

The video also showed a warning that he claimed a friend received when searching his name. The message said "Can we help? Posts associated with words or tags that you're searching for often encourage behavior that can cause harm or even lead to death. If you're going through something difficult, we'd like to help." The warning did not show up for CBS News when searching.

The third slide in the video showed some of the memes, some which appeared mean-spirited, that appeared to show up under a search for his name.

And man do I need a drink this week. But before we do we need some appropriate music:

So tell me bartender, what goes well with aliens? Beer served in a glass wrapped in tin foil so they don’t see your mouth moving? Ah fuck it, just give me a large beer. So just north of my home town and where we host the Top 10 at the UCB Theater is AlienCon. Yes, it’s the annual convention that takes a look at all things involving extra terrestrials. I mean the truth is out there, yo!

So you've never missed an episode of History's "Ancient Aliens," the multi-season series that ponders the possibility of life on other planets, and whether those interplanetary travelers have visited our own world.

But, sigh. You don't yet own a spaceship that can zoom you to where other show fans might congregate?

No worries: Pasadena is the place to zoom over Father's Day Weekend.

That's where oodles of "Ancient Aliens" fans, as well as those curious sorts who want to ponder what might be out there, will meet up for AlienCon, no spaceship nor anti-gravity suit required.

The three-day Pasadena Convention Center event, which reaches across time/space from June 15 through 17, or at least across vast convention rooms, will include a host of actors famous for roles in iconic TV series and films.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! It brings us love!!! So what else does it get you by visiting the annual gathering of alien lovers and tin foil hatters? Why it gets you UFOs and time traveling science fiction!

Could those who have made a multimillion-dollar industry out of promoting the idea of aliens visiting Earth in the distant past put on a show in Pasadena, home to Caltech and Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and attract scientists along with fun-seekers and the merely curious?

Ancient astronaut theorists say yes, and they intend to prove it when AlienCon opens Friday at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Many people may not realize that the Caltech/JPL connection to the science of celestial wonders has also inspired imaginations to create science fiction and a massive fan base for an ever-growing collection of TV shows and books examining the possibility of other life forms hidden in the stars.

This weekend’s three-day convention brings together top actors, writers, UFOlogists and TV hosts from the ever-expanding array of television series — particularly the History Channel’s “Ancient Aliens” — that have sprung up to study the signs and wonders of possible alien life forms and where space-related technology is heading.

With dozens of speakers and autograph sessions, and several thousand fans coming together at the Pasadena Convention Center Friday through Sunday, the Crown City will be a hotter spot than Area 51.

Deep State Diaries Episode 2: The Department Of Veterans Affairs
[br]
[br]

What is Deep State Diaries? Our goal here at the Top 10 is that we like to educate you, as well as entertain you. We’ve toured the world and we’ve toured the country. Now we’re going to explore the favorite boogeyman of Trump fans – the Deep State! It’s time for episode 2 of Deep State Diaries. Yes we’re touring the 24 branches and services that make up the United States government. Everything from the FBI to the IRS to the Pentagon to the CIA to the DPW to the DVA to parks and recreation and all branches and services in between. Of course if you’re here you probably already know more about our government and how it works than your average Fox News loving Trump supporter does. So that’s what this segment is going to address. We are going to do a deep dive into all that makes the United States the United States. Next up is the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Veterans Affairs

We’re here at the department of Veterans Affairs everybody. Yes, we are going the controversial route because we live in such a patriotic country. And those that bleed red, white and blue always harp on everyone else for not supporting the flag, the troops, and whatever bullshit they can think of that isn’t American. And those same people have got us into two immoral wars that we’ll never get out of no matter how much we want to, and they’re responsible for our military being as insane as it is necessary to the well being of the United States. But what happens when our troops come home?

A former employee of the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Southern California has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing the personal information of more than 1,000 patients, according to the facility.

In April, a police search of the vehicle of Albert Torres, then a clerk at the VA, revealed patient data — including names, dates of birth and full Social Security numbers.

Torres was initially pulled over after a records search indicated that the license plates on his vehicle did not match the VIN number of the car, according to a press release from the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. The facility reported that police spotted a pill bottle in his car for which he did not have a prescription — it was later found to contain Gabapentin, a medication sometimes used to treat anxiety, epilepsy or pain associated with shingles.

After obtaining a search warrant for Torres’s apartment, police found hard drives and flash drives containing the personal information of an additional 1,014 patients, as well as cleaning supplies, worth $1,031.

Holy shit! So yeah rampant identity theft is a thing that is happening inside the VA. And there’s very little that’s known about the guy who Trump picked to run this department after the clusterfuck involving him picking his own physician to run the department. Maybe we can shed some light on this subject.

WASHINGTON — The White House named Peter O’Rourke as acting Veterans Affairs secretary after Robert Wilkie stepped down from the post to begin his formal confirmation process for the department’s permanent top job.

The move had been expected since President Donald Trump announced on May 18 that he was nominating Wilkie, the Pentagon’s top personnel and readiness official, for the vacant VA secretary job.

Wilkie had served in an acting role since March, when Trump fired David Shulkin from the post amid infighting at the department.

Naming O’Rouke as the interim department head once again bypasses VA Deputy Secretary Thomas Bowman for the post. Bowman announced he will retire from federal service on June 15.

Veterans groups had complained that administration officials violated federal law by skipping over Bowman in March, and a pair of advocacy organizations have a pending lawsuit against the White House to invalidate decisions made by Wilkie as acting secretary.

Yeah that’s kind of how I feel about this one. OK so we’ve established who runs this department and what it does. So where do they send our returning troops? Especially those that need some critical help to get reintegrated into society? What kind of facilities do we have waiting for them?

WASHINGTON — Veterans Affairs’ independent watchdog office is accusing department leaders of improperly withholding records dealing with employee complaints, saying the action could be covering up potential criminal misbehavior.

Veterans Affairs leaders have responded by accusing the inspector general of overstepping its authority and improperly issuing reports that “recklessly cast the VA and its employees in an unfavorable light.”

Lawmakers pulled into the fight this week call the conflict concerning.

“The total lack of cooperation from the VA is alarming and a disservice to American veterans and taxpayers,” said Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and ranking member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

“I’m demanding the VA immediately comply with the IG’s request for access to information. The VA leadership that prides itself on transparency is not above the law or exempt from independent oversight.”

Good thing we’re doing this one first, I would hate to save that one for sweeps month! Yeah I’m starting to think we should get this one over with. But really it’s insane what is happening at the VA and if you’re a serviceman or woman returning from service, thank you. But if you exploit those people who are returning from service, fuck you.

FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- Officials with the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced an investigation Monday after a pathologist was found to be "impaired" and misdiagnosed patients, resulting in at least one death.

Dr. Skye McDougall, the Network Director and CEO of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, began the announcement on Monday.

"I want to apologize to all veterans for what we're going to disclose today," said McDougall. "What we're going to talk about today is a very serious and, I believe, very tragic situation with tragic outcomes for our veterans,"

She then introduced Dr. Kelvin L. Parks, the interim director for the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, to explain what happened.

According to Parks, a Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks pathologist was found to be "impaired" on March 22, 2016. The pathologist was immediately removed from clinical care. The pathologist had no previous disciplinary actions and was "deemed an excellent candidate of the impaired physician program."
