3. Maybe Romney didn't show McCain any tax returns

Maybe he just showed him 23 years of financial disclosure statements, which he's now says is equivalent to tax returns. Romney refusing to release his tax returns to the public would be grounds enough for McCain, who's released numerous years, to not even consider Romney.

As secretive as Romney is, I seriously doubt he would show his tax returns to ANYONE.

4. EXCELLENT Point. McCain and his mouth speak out about everything. Not a word from him.

8. I think they went with Palin because she was the 'game changer' they needed

The McCain campaign knew Romney wasn't popular enough or a game changer and they knew they had to do something drastic. If you haven't had a change to watch Game Changer you should.

Plus their bosses probably don't want Mitt's tax returns made public.

10. DID the McCain folk see Romney's income tax forms?

More to the point, if the McCain folk DID see Romney's income tax forms, and there was nothing wrong with them, WHY HASN'T ANYONE SAID SO?

What if Mitt was rejected as VP not because of what was on his returns, BUT BECAUSE MITT REFUSED TO PRODUCE ANY?

11. McCain has already said that

there was nothing in Mitt's tax returns that would disqualify him from being President.

And, as someone pointed out above, perhaps Romney just showed the McCain campaign financial disclosure docs, not the actual returns. McCain may just assume that they were tax returns.

12. Nothing Disqualifying?

The quote ..."Everything was fine," McCain told reporters on Capitol Hill. "I can personally vouch for the fact that there was nothing in his tax returns that would in any way be disqualifying for him to be a candidate."

That could be factual with many of the scenarios floating around. Disqualifying is the operative term. What would be disqualifying would be fraud, failure to report, false addresses, etc. And I'm sure they didn't pore over them for days and days with the microscope, which it would have taken, because he was probably never seriously considered.

And since he was the sole everything at Bain, lots may have gone on as "business" which would not show up on personal returns.

McCain has a fall back position.
