Has anybody else been watching CSpan today? The Dem Platform Committee has been on all day.

It's been wonderful.
Makes me so proud to be a Democrat.
This is to set up the platform for the Democratic National Convention.

Different people from all walks of life have been invited to speak.
Gay Rights, Obamacare success stories, teachers, union leaders, foreign affairs, climate change, different 'minority' groups.
All of these different groups have been reporting back to the Dem Platform Committee about what people are saying and what people want out in "the real world".

I can tell you this, the President has alot of support from alot of different groups of people. An outpouring of support.

It's just finishing up now, but I bet C-Span will re-air it or it will be on their website.

It's been a slice of Democratic Heaven.

But can also be tedious & frustrating...

Every caucus site is allowed to accept platform items from anyone in attendance on caucus night. The county platform committee's job is to collect all the platform items, sort through them, organize them (duplicates, some that are very similar, etc), and present the platform at the county convention. And then all the convention delegates have the opportunity to scrutinize/discuss/debate, etc.

The final is then submitted to the State Platform Committee, where the steps are repeated (in our case, all 99 county platforms need to be considered and merged into one). The final state platform is discussed at the state convention - this can definitely get tedious - where delegates walk up to a mic to propose changes, which are then voted on, and this can take HOURS. After that, the state platform is sent up to the national level, where I'm sure the process is repeated.

I still like the process, even though it can be painful.
