For the first time in a long time, LI Democrats see the real possibility of booting the odious Rep Peter King from his long-held congressional seat.
We have a remarkable and dynamic Emily's List and OR endorsed Democratic candidate, a long time activist both within the party and within the community at large. She made history in May when she petitioned the FEC to allow campaign funds to be used for child care, breaking down a barrier that was preventing potential new candidates from considering a run. Liuba is already getting things done.
We have a real shot, but it is a steep climb. Please consider getting involved and help us flip that red seat blue!

(30,736 posts)Ocasio Cortez should be in her home state helping this candidate. She should be there stumping for all the Democrats in NY.

King isn't the worst R, but I dream of getting rid of both these guys.

(94,534 posts)...and my database says this is still a SOLID-R district.
I know how much people hate King, but that emotional response is precisely NOT the way to select candidates to donate to. We need to pick up 23 seats (Ben Ray Lujan tells me he wants 33 to have a cushion) to put King in the Minority, which is just as effective as defeating him. Giving money to Liuba Shirley means not giving that money to one of the many races we're more likely to win.

(18,252 posts)I posted just before I left the house, and on the drive back home I actually thought, "Shoot, what district did I put in that headline?" (I live in neither the 1st nor the 2nd district. Kathleen Rice is my rep.)
I hope people will still support Liuba, despite my (corrected) mistake.
Today's event was a formal endorsement by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone (an early mentor of Liuba), Laura Curran (who flipped the Nassau County exec seat blue last year and became the first woman to serve in that office), and the wonderful candidate from the 2nd District, Liuba Grechen Shirley.
