With the Sonoma/Napa fires and this one, both more urban settings, no so much just "in the wild"...
Mother Nature is letting us know things are out of balance. So very sad, scary and dangerous!

I live in the rural Sierra and am re-thinking my own "bugout" plan...

I have seen one forest fire in my life, it burned two acres in about 4 minutes. Fortunately I was away from where it was burning.

and the bush is getting more and more dangerous and subject to this kind of fire.

It's horrible to see the loss in life and property. Firefighters are showing us what real heroes look like.

Definitely get your "bugout" plans in order. Nature is beautiful, but also can be cruel and heartless. Best of luck to you and yours. Be safe as you can.

4. Our state is burning, again

We are in the middle of area that burned last fall (our neighborhood was very lucky). 43 people died and 10,000 buildings burned.
Now there are 3 major fires north of here, and 3 more to the east.
Woke up this morning to a deck covered in ash and smokey skies. We are thinking that this is the new normal.
To every republican who denies climate change and especially the infestation in our presidency, a big giant FUCK YOU.
It's not too late, we hope, to get rational people, yes, Democrats, back in control to try to get us back on the path to reversing at least some of the devastation we have largely brought on ourselves. This is a global effort and we must again be a part of that.
In the meantime, send rain.

I create defensible space for a living. I too live in the Sierra Nevada's just north of Yosemite. Yes, its smoky as hell. The urban interface of which you speak is called the WUI (woo-wee), for Wildland Urban Interface.
This has all been predicted for the last 40+years. People just don't get it. Its a cabin that my family goes to 2x a year so it doesn't matter. while their neighbors spend thousands of dollars a year to maintain defensible space (PRC4291 in California), when the fire does come its that guy with 2 or 20 acres of neglected property.
To whom ever may be living the above described habitat, for F's sake, take care of your property.

Be safe!

100 feet of defensible space is nothing. Also federal funds for forest management and fuel treatment have been going down, down, down. My friends and former co workers in the forest service are demoralized and counting the days until retirement.

Redding (Shasta county) is a really red part of the state. And Mariposa in Yosemite valley also voted for Twitler in large numbers. Let’s just say Redding is an area that if you are a person of color you don’t stop there even for gas.
