My very conservative, life long republican brother

has just told me that he is now in favor of gun control, gay marriage, and universal health care. He is still a conservative republican about most issues but he seems to be more open minded. We actually had a political discussion where we agreed on something. He also doesn't defend George Bush and Sarah Palin anymore. He has decided that he really doesn't like the tea party. I don't know what has come over him but I'm happy about it.

I've a family member in Nevada who reminds me of your brother. This year is going to be their first year voting for a Democratic candidate for president.

It's been a long hard road. In the end they're voting down ticket for some Republicans, but they're supporting Obama as the president.

Never give up.

He has always been kind of sexist. I remember him telling me that women should get married, raise children and take care of their husbands. When I was a kid, I told him that I wanted to be a pilot or an engineer. He told me that women can't be pilots and engineers. Of course, he ended up marrying a very smart, successful woman who is an executive at her company. I think she has been a good influence on him.

(R)s support torture. If a person is an (R) just ask them. If your brother is an (R) just ask him if he'd torture someone or order the torture of someone given the right circumstance in his mind.

Go ahead, ask.

has now done a complete 180. He is no longer racist, now supports gay marriage, thinks Christians (of which he is one) have run off the rails, quit going to the fundamentalist church and thinks women should not only have all the rights they so richly deserve but should be the one's in power. Oh, and he also ordered HBO just to watch The Newsroom.

He said he'd like to lay all of the "blame" on me for him turning left but some blame goes to his son and science programs on the science channel.

He says he doesn't know if he will vote but he definitely is NOT voting for Romney. I'd prefer, of course, if he voted for President Obama, but at least that's one less vote to cancel out.

PS

I think my husband can talk him into voting for Obama.

because her Daddy was a high-up muckety muck in their small town Republican party, and she gets all her news from the WSJ and Fox.

But now she lives in the boonies and has found Jesus, so it's only bound to get worse, because she'll have NO information that isn't right-wing fundamentalist loony. .

If he starts to realize that the right-wing pundits, e.g. Rush, Hannity, etc., are paid to change the media-scape, it might start to dawn on him why he held those ideas he's now changed.

Good news. Good luck.
