(15,543 posts)they have managed to reduce US power, prestige and influence around the globe - and this kgop republican lawlessness will weaken America further, just as the freaking kremlin is hoping.

(2,002 posts)Of course they are a breach of international law. The UN and its members created and passed the agreement and it doesn't matter what Trump and the Israel First bunch want. Any "military action" against Iran would be seen as an illegitimate attack upon a sovereign nation. It would be the first time in the post WWII era that America was the "international bad guy" and the consequences would be severe. I almost expect the UN to make statements to this affect shortly.
This isn't Iraq, or Afganistan or even Syria. There is no "UN mandate of force" for Iran like Iraq to fall back on. The US can not simply launch an attack because someone wants to start a war with Iran to distract from his eminent ouster. He has no authority. We are not at war with Iran; there's no UN mandate; there's nothing. A declaration of war by Congress is the only way there can be military action. I am confident that "those down the chain" who have to carry out orders would not do so, and any "order" from Trump probably results in the ultimate nightmare which is control is taken over by the Joint Chiefs of Staff until Congress officially removes Trump and installs Pence or Ryan.
