The link between white supremacy and the anti-abortion movement.

I posted a thread this morning in Late Breaking News about ongoing campaigns by government officials to silence investigators and critics of right-wing terrorism. The thread linked to a program on Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman. She interviewed a former DHS analyst who made a thought-provoking observation (for me, anyway) about the connection between white supremacy and the anti-abortion movement

Link to interview and transcript:
http://www.democracynow.org/2012/8/9/former_dhs_analyst_daryl_johnson_on#transcript

This is the comment that caught my eye:

AMY GOODMAN: It is interesting also that President Obama spoke yesterday in Denver with Sandra Fluke who introduced him, the Georgetown University law student who was speaking out for contraception and was targeted by Rush Limbaugh and others, and was talking about women’s health and women’s rights in this country. The neo-Nazi movement, along with the anti-choice movement, do you see links? I’m talking about the extremist wing.

DARYL JOHNSON: There’s definitely links between white supremacists and the anti-abortion issue. That is one of the causes that they rally around and use as a recruitment tool to bring people into the movement. I wouldn’t necessarily say it is strictly neo-Nazi. It could be, also, the Christian Identity Movement, it could be skinheads, it could the Ku Klux Klan.

I wish they would have gone into more detail about the "whys" of this connection. Any thoughts?

So being anti-abortion seems counter-intuitive to me.

But white supremacy is itself a sign of insanity.

economically struggling and black women are having more abortions. The reputable agencies that report statistics on abortion all show this.

If these idiots do not want abortions, they should work to keep the economy strong. More women carry through on their pregnancies when they are not struggling financially.

They want to stop only white women from using birth control or having abortions but they can't word the laws to say that - it would give the game away.

These organizations are willing to look the other way when it comes to the numbers of black and brown women using birth control and having abortions and the providers of birth control and abortions to black and brown women.

for Black women to get abortions, which they do at a high rate (I believe it's the highest as a racial/ethnic group)? I heard that Margaret Sanger was a eugenics supporter...

That was then. This is now.

Ultimately, the struggle for reproductive rights is about who gets control of women's bodies: The women in question or an outside authority - Their husbands, their church, their government.

So thanks for the information and your concern about Sanger - which most folks know anyway.

in this country, thus, they want to make sure that white women can't have abortions!

Unfortunately for the supremacists, they can't get laws passed that restrict access to birth control and abortion for white women only........so they have to restrict access to birth control and abortion for ALL women.

But believe me, white supremacists don't care two $hits if black and brown women have abortions - in fact, I'm sure the supremacists would encourage black and brown women to have MORE abortions.

Also, fundamentalist Christians are against birth control and abortions because they are afraid of becoming a religious monority in the world and being outnumbered by Muslims. Christian fundamentalists want more children born to more Christians so that they can replenish the number of Christian soldiers to fight what they believe is the upcoming war against the Muslims.

surprise me. I think if a Venn diagram were done on all of these Hate Groups, there would be a considerable overlap, just as a guess 60% or better. Look at the Phelps family, for example, they seem to encompass a lot of hatred across multiple areas.

David Lane's 14 words: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children".

Depends on which brand of skinhead you are talking to - they either want jews and non-whites eradicated from the earth, or segregated away from white people.

In that, they fear that "pureblood" whites will sooner than later become a "minority" and want to protect and preserve any DNA that may be floating about in the gene pool.

They don't give a shit about latino, Jewish or African American abortions - only white ones - as that is the "securing the existence" of the white race.

These people don't care if black or brown women have abortions - they only want to stop white women from having abortions.

But to attempt to write laws restricting the rights of only white women would give the game away.

I thought about the totalitarian nature of extreme-right movements. Pro-choice ideals would certainly run counter to totalitarian beliefs.

I mean, how can you control someone if they are free to choose?

But this observation might be a tad naive...

Whenever studies indicate that the birth rate among white people has dropped these groups (hate/anti-abortion) get more vocal. Just whenever you see a news story on birth rates or US population shifts...start looking for activity to notch up. It will. Sometimes it's just words (to include billboards)...sometimes they get the urge to march...sometimes it's violence. You also notice GOP groups such as the Eagle Forum spouting off around that same time.

So, it maybe that through some kind of intuition they realize that if white people have less children there will be more brown people. Assuming immigration levels since the 50's remains static, white births have gone down dramatically since the 70's and I doubt they will ever go back to what they were prior to the 70's. So eventually white people will be a minority even if one of the largest.

The race cannot afford to lose the reproduction race to lesser people's. Pure white need to reproduce.

If you read enough of the crap, going back to the fountain head (eugenics) they would not mind abortion for the lesser people, but white people need to reproduce like rabbits. Fast forwards a few decades, this is also linked to the quiverful movement.

Yes, these people are that scary.

Many of the individuals who comprise these groups tend to be somewhat base. On a personal level, these guys don't want their own babies aborted, it is an affront to their worth and masculinity. A lion wants a large pride, not just because the females do the hunting, but because it allows him to pass on his seed.
