Nathan’s Hot Dog Honcho to Host Trump Fundraiser in the Hamptons
By Jennifer Jacobs
August 14, 2018, 5:26 PM EDT

Howard Lorber, a Manhattan developer and executive chairman of Nathan’s Famous Inc., the hot dog company, is hosting a fundraiser for President Donald Trump in the Hamptons, according to two people familiar with the event.

Trump will attend both a roundtable with supporters and a luncheon at Lorber’s home in Southampton on Friday, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the president’s trip hasn’t been publicly announced.

Last year, Trump described Lorber as one of his two best friends. In 1996, Trump and Lorber traveled to Moscow together to explore business opportunities.

Lorber was an economic adviser to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. And the president last year appointed him chairman of the board of trustees for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

Mostly I get mine from their food court. Once we bought a pack of Kirkland's dogs but with just the two of us and my husband not liking hot dogs much, it took a year to eat them all - of course they were stored in the freezer.

So now I get one on our once a month Costco buying trip and call it good.

Underrated quote from Trump gaggle:

"We're going to New York. We're going to New Jersey for work. It's going to be all work."

The meat processing and products industry, typically a major contributor to federal-level politics, has historically favored the Republican Party. Political action committees and individuals associated with big name companies like Tyson Foods and Smithfield Foods — two political heavyweights in the industry — contributed overwhelmingly to federal candidates and political parties affiliated with the GOP during the 2010 election cycle.
Tyson Foods is of course one of the most popular meat brands in America, and offers chicken, beef and pork products in many major grocery stores. Smithfield, meanwhile, boasts as many meats and more than 50 brands sold from coast to coast.
But if you’re not eating products from such big names, you have a better chance of supporting the Democratic Party.
Smaller companies such as Omaha Steaks, Valley Proteins, Sam Kane Beef Processors and Boar’s Head Provisions went against the industry norm: Individuals affiliated with those companies gave heavily to Democratic candidates and party committees during the 2010 cycle.
Such individuals associated with Boar’s Head, for example, which is a household name in the deli meats section of your supermarket, contributed 100 percent of its contributes to federal candidates and PACs affiliated with Democrats during the 2010 cycle – exactly $49,300 worth, according to the Center’s research.

I know this is an old article, but I imagine even truer now.

I am increasingly grossed out by “big meat” (corporate) anyway. Tyson is the worst - they have a lot of packing & processing facilities in my region, rough places to work, I hear. But my area also is having a lot of growth in sustainable farms like White Oak Pastures. I’m fortunate to have those options.

Yes, there are still other brands of meats and Publix branded deli sandwiches, but most of their deli products are now dominated by Boarshead. I don't mind, except they removed my favorite garlic Polish bologna and the brand of Lebanon bologna they carry is not as good as the old brand.

I will drop my resentment of Boarshead and be happy they are infesting the right wing donating Publix!

They're the brand that the NYC dirty-water dog carts use - for the longest time you could only get them retail in a few stores in the city, nowadays they're in all the supermarkets here and I've seen them regionally too.

Not sure if they're available nationwide yet, but if you can find them there's nothing better IMO.

to national chains, I prefer independent sausage shops to Nathan's (which used to be great when the Handwerker family still ran it).

As a west coast person, I shop the following places:

Los Angeles: Schreiner's Fine Sausages (I haven't tried the Phoenix location)
Bishop, CA: Mahogany Smoked Meats (down the street from Erick Schat's Bakkery)
Portland, OR: Otto's Sausage Kitchen and Edelweiss Sausage & Deli

(I'm sort of a sausage savant)

Aug 2018

There's got to be a way. If Trump has appointed one of his bestees the chairman of the board of trustees for the museum, there has to be a way to make money off the appointment. Why else would this 'friend of Drumpf' do it. Particularly since his bestee is throwing expensive fundraisers for Trump. Birds of a feather flock together and if Lorber is one of Drumpf's two best friends, he's got to be as crooked as Drumpf.
