The goal of the October tour is to highlight GOP House members support for the $1.2 trillion tax cut law, which is unpopular in public opinion polling. Critics have assailed the law for increasing the budget deficit and income inequality. The law remains popular in some Republican-leaning states and with the GOPs donor class but hasnt proven to be the midterm winner many GOP operatives hoped.

(32,640 posts)I recall an interview with the sister who represents the nuns in 2012 when they were being told to be silent by the Pope when they spoke out about health care, especially women's reproductive health care.
She said something to the effect of, "When you are in Rome, and don't work directly with those who are suffering - the AIDS patients, women who have too many children, those people who are at the beside of their same sex partner, perhaps you forget who your flock is. Jesus first appeared to women when he rose from the dead, and sent them to tell the apostles - who doubted their word until they saw him. We're just continuing our Biblical tradition of bringing the men up to speed on Jesus' message."
