Everyone knew President Obama's name because he had been in office for four years and had all that name recognition thanks to the "liberal media".

That's how the right wing nutjobs will spin it. The way I see it, if Mitt goes down in november, either the 2016 nominee will be to the right of paul ryan, or the repubublican coalition of plutocrats and rubes will implode.

If they lose (please dear God!!) it will be because they didn't nominate a True Conservative, and they'll get it right next time!...rinse, repeat.

This will be Ross Perot part 2 without the third party candidate.

They will blame the "Conservatives" for forcing Mitt going too far on the right and thus alienating the middle which is needed for winning elections. Plus state Mitt was a perfect candidate to defeat Obama, but because of the purity demands, his hands were tied.

Then they will tell the "Conservatives" to get inline or get the hell out of the party. I'm going to guess the "Tea Party Conservatives" will form their own and discover next election cycle that they have absolutely no way to influence anything and get hit by the hard boot of reality....and then limp back to the Republican Party.

And the Republicans can pimp themselves as a reborn party that caters to the big tent policy. And will have "fresh" ideas to the dull dusty Democratic Party....shoot, they may even come up with a plan that "offers more choices" in the healthcare plan...acting like it was their idea all along.

The TEA Party folks are just useful idiots. They helped them get back into power and they will be the ones to take the fall and blame later.

14. The Republicans and hard right have..

...always had a fractured relationship. The republicans get their votes in exchange for pushing some of their agenda. Now, the hard right/conservatives have been in their echo chamber for so long, they think they run the place. They actually believe the general populace will vote for a die hard conservative if given the chance.

For example, I have a relative in Fresno who in 2008 supported McCain...I tend to be rather anti-political so don't ask me why she wanted my opinion. I told her from the polls, its going to be Obama. She stated "you don't know that, I don't know anyone who is going to vote for Obama"....I replied "and you live where?...." She thought about it, muttled and moved on. But that's the reality they live in, only what they see and hear in their immediate area and think everyone else beyond that is just like them.

Of course the GOP knows if they run someone thats a die hard, it will destroy their party.

So they will let them run amuck for awhile and capitalize...and then slap them upside the head later. Its the battered relationship they have. The conservatives will walk out...and once they realize the reality...come crawling back begging forgiveness. And the process begins anew.

Of course the GOP could drop them and embrace the Libertarians (both share an anti tax philosophy), which would appeal to much of the center as well (anti-war, anti social engineering, etc.) ...but they don't because the GOP pockets are lined heavily with military industries, something the Libertarians want to see dropped.

The Republican party maintains the illusion of unity, but in reality its a coalition of two.
