(30,481 posts)Send your money. Those trying to make this divisive wont send him a dollar. Support him. Send him cash.

Those who think that his nomination is a sign that there is a substantial split in the Democratic party are the ones making this divisive.

She also had him on a list for her VP picks.
That will be one of the lasting effects that Hillary has on Democrats - Woodfin, Gillum, Abrams. Nurturing, inspiring and launching the next generation of leadership that isn't so white and so male.

(5,272 posts)I see no reason to give Sanders credit for Gillum's win, but I see no reason to work overtime to suggest that there's some massive divide here. Gillum doesn't take corporate pac money which is why Sanders endorsed him. Good on Gillum and I'm glad that this is one of those rare cases here where Sanders endorsement doesn't make a candidate dead to a good chunk of the DU readership.
This is also Gillum talking, by the way. Also worth listening to.

(653 posts)My wife and I went to the polls yesterday to vote. It is a short ride to our polling place, we should have walked it is so close. When we got out of the car I had my pre filled out ballot that we get in the mail several weeks before an election. I had selected Gwen as my choice as did my wife on hers. As we walked towards the building we briefly discussed our selections and we just decided right there that instead of Gwen, we would vote for Andrew. We could always vote for Gwen if she won but in the primary you have a chance to vote for who you would really want in the office. We loved his message but we thought earlier Gwen would more than likely win so that was who we thought we'd vote for. Now in light of Andrews victory, I think the Democrats have a huge chance to win the governorship. Florida however be prepared for a nasty fight. This will no doubt be the dirtiest fight ever in the state's history and the republicans will crawl through dog shit to get in the governor's mansion. Desantis is an opportunistic clown and will be as nasty and as racist as he can be. When they go low, we must go high.

(32,640 posts)Unfortunately, many "progressive" groups and individuals recently have dug in and refused to support any candidate but the one they endorsed for the primary.
We saw that with the VA governors' primary. Fortunately Periello, the candidate that didn't win the nomination, fully and enthusiastically endorsed Northam, unlike his endorser Our Revolution, who refused and sulked.
Gillum deserves and will need every bit of support that he can get.

(58,785 posts)may be about trying to woo POC, improving his brand by claiming wins, and hoping to collect on some IOUs later, but hopefully endorsing selected mainstream Democrats who might be able to win will average out to be a good thing.
Gwen Graham was believed to be a far stronger candidate for the GE, though, and her loss was narrow enough that endorsement of her opponent may have been the difference. And Florida's huge. Well, our candidate Andrew Gillum's a solid liberal with experience, and hopefully voters will be able to see that. Assessing costs v benefits will have to wait until after November 6.
Our Democratic candidate for U.S. senate from FL, Bill Nelson, will so far face off against Scott Walker without Sen. Sanders' help. Again, no idea yet if that's a good thing or bad. The people of Florida will answer that question. Let's hope endorsing helps one and not endorsing helps the other.
As for the type who tried to sabotage Governor Northam in favor of a Republican, guessing they've already resolved all this "ideological" smudging into a simple choice of supporting whoever Sanders says. Gillum would be safe, Nelson not so much.

(18,964 posts)I am impressed and enthused...this guy has a future ahead of him.
He's a Mayor...so he has had to balance a budget, fix roads, listen to complaints about garbage pickup, barking dogs, unmowed lawns...also..in Tallahassee, race relations and police relations...
He's got the experience to go far.

(28,270 posts)The party needs to get behind this guy 1000%! He needs to take the Florida governorship for the people!
I think the future of the democratic party looks a lot like Andrew Gillum!

I saw the DeSantis is already claiming he's a socialist and used a racial dog whistle when talking about Gillum this morning. Here we go.
