Trump can't stand Sessions' Southern accent. I wonder what his base thinks about that.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/29/trump-sessions-firing-senators-white-house-803922

If Sessions’ recusal was his original sin, Trump has come to resent him for other reasons, griping to aides and lawmakers that the attorney general doesn’t have the Ivy League pedigree the president prefers, that he can’t stand his Southern accent and that Sessions isn’t a capable defender of the president on television — in part because he “talks like he has marbles in his mouth,” the president has told aides.

So far it look like only Politico and sources quoting Politico are reporting this, but if it's confirmed then it seems like it might have the potential to turn away a sizeable chunk of Trump's base.

It has everything to do with the ugliness inside him. Even his mouth contorts in an ugly way because of the ugliness that he spews out of it.

We pretty routinely make fun of southern accents and (sorry to admit this) also associate it with stupid.

I meant that his voice sounds bad *to me*, but not because of regional dialect. He could be from any part of the U. S. and it wouldn't matter. It's the ugliness of his soul. He'd sound mean and horrible no matter what, because he is mean and horrible and his tone is mean and horrible.

I'm originally from one of the "nice" northern states, and now live in Colorado. When I first moved here I took notice of some of the regional quirks, and I guess I sort of made fun of them to my then husband. And he made fun of my quirks too. Somewhere along the line I quit hearing those regional quirks.

Side story: Awhile back I was driving somewhere in the north (I don't remember which state) and stopped for some sort of food. I remember I asked for jalapenos, and the server looked at me in the most peculiar way. Then she repeated it back to me incorrectly. We had sort of a brief standoff, with me saying it correctly again, and her saying it incorrectly again. Hey, I've got a lot of friends who are from Mexico, or whose families are from Mexico. They've taught me how to say it correctly.

me and my "train pal" were talking about My Cousin Vinny and the "what's a yewt?" Cracks me up every time. We have an office in North Carolina so I've gotten used to Southern accents but as a whole, NYC folk do make fun.

But yes, Sessions is a dark soul and I'd detest him even if he sounded like he came from Brooklyn.

I don't view people who have them as stupid. Sessions' accent is way over the top, and clearly that's a common sentiment based on the portrayal on SNL. I remember hating John Edwards's accent. Actually, lots of accents & dialects annoy me. I don't like Bernie's accent either.

I just love her southern accent. I don't know the difference between her natural Nashville accent and the one we hear on Young Sheldon, but I could listen to her all day long. She doesn't come across as stupid to me.

I could listen to John Meacham all day. Joyce Nance (lawyer on msnbc, pretty sure that's her name). Both brilliant, both heavy southern accents. Sessions makes want to tear my ears off. It's just that NYers are regional snobs, we can't help it, I think we're born with it.

And didn't he have the same academic degrees then that he has now? Didn't Spanky notice Sessions' accent back then? Or did he decide he hated it only after Sessions did something he didn't like? Doesn't Roy Moore have a similar accent and no Harvard degree? Spanky liked him well enough, even if ol' Roy had spent a little too much time trolling shopping malls for nubile fifteen-year-olds. He'll *cough cough* trump up a reason to dislike anybody who crosses him.
