Lindsey Graham: "It pisses me off to no end" when Trump says things about John McCain

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had some choice words to share about President Donald Trump’s “disturbing” way of handling the recent death of Sen. John McCain.

“It bothers me greatly when the president says things about John McCain. It pisses me off to no end, and I let the president know it,” Graham said in an interview with John Dickerson on “CBS This Morning” on Thursday.

“The way [Trump’s] handled the passing of John is just, was disturbing. We finally got it right. … I am not going to give up on the idea of working with this president. The best way I can honor John McCain is help my country.”

The best way to honor McCain is to stop sucking up to trump and start acting like someone who cares more about the country than his party.

McCain writes it was a mistake to bring Palin on board. (I'm glad you DID John because she was instrumental in sinking your chances)

In life, I don't recall him ever saying a bad word about Palin.

At His Ranch, John McCain Shares Memories and Regrets With Friends

Yet many in Mr. McCain’s own party believe that, by selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008, he bears at least a small measure of blame for unleashing the forces of grievance politics and nativism within the Republican Party.

While he continues to defend Ms. Palin’s performance, Mr. McCain uses the documentary and the book to unburden himself about not selecting Mr. Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent, as his running mate.

He recalls that his advisers warned him that picking a vice-presidential candidate who caucused with Democrats and supported abortion rights would divide Republicans and doom his chances.

“It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.”

Even more striking is how Mr. McCain expresses his sorrow in the documentary. He calls the decision not to pick Mr. Lieberman “another mistake that I made” in his political career, a self-indictment that includes his involvement in the Keating Five savings and loan scandal and his reluctance to speak out during his 2000 presidential bid about the Confederate battle flag flying above the South Carolina Capitol.

Mr. Lieberman said he didn’t know Mr. McCain felt that regret until he watched the film. “It touched me greatly,” he said.

Wonder what's going on? Maybe McCain's intent was to show that political rivals (e.g., Bush and Obama) don't have to be enemies so he didn't need to go to Graham or Lieberman, but it does seem odd.

You "let the president know it." Did you sock him in the jaw, too, so that the lesson had a chance to sink in good? Or did you then bow, tug your forelock and say that you weren't giving up on the idea of working with this president who pisses you off to no end? 'Cause that's kind of a mixed message thing. But I'm sure Donald Trump understands and appreciates the delicate nuance of your positions.

His lack of steadfastness in behalf of his best friend makes, or at least should make, one wonder just what he would be steadfast about. I honestly couldn't vote for any candidate who I thought had such a weak moral fiber.
