(3,020 posts)and when that happens it just wrecks my day. Always three guys walking into a bar. If it's Obama and Biden, yeah I'm all in, but what if the third one is an Amway salesman? No, just no. Sorry Joe, you guys are on your own. Nobody walks into a bar with an Amway salesman. Jeez, rename the forums.

(145,321 posts)Satire belongs on this board. I was fortunate to have a civics teacher (back when Civics was a required course to graduate) who taught us about the importance of political cartoons and satire in political debate. Swift's Modest Proposal is a classic example of the use of satire on then contemporary issues.

(18,837 posts)I don't follow orders well. That's why I started my own business in 2001.
Seriously, I try to be a "courteous" poster. What I find from being here 7 days a week is that there is no shortage of complaints on any level. I'm sure I've found it onto more than a few "ignore" lists just because of who I am and how I say the things I say.
The last 20 or so Onion posts I've done have had "ONION:" (yes, in caps) at the beginning, and then the rest of the subject line.
That said, as soon as I am ordered to do it, it makes me not want to do it any more.
I'm funny that way.

(23,322 posts)say The Onion in the actual link? Same for Borowitz? Maybe its me but I usually scan the link before I read the article just to get an idea of what Im in for.

Edit to add: Didn't realize you meant the post as a dig on the reference to the name of the program being "Breaking Big"

I also know that anything from the Onion or Andy Borowitz is satire

(16,863 posts)Perhaps we would do well to actual click the link in the article, review the source, and read the content before we slam satire in the GD?
DU is an amazing site and resource but the OP's are intended to expose us to other sites and stories, not merely to be the source of our news content.
I think satire here is entirely appropriate and, although we live in a world where satire seems all too true, it remains valuable!

You may not like it. You might not recognize it as satire. However, you are also not in charge of the rules at DU. Sorry.

(115,735 posts)It's one of the best ways of skewering those who deserve skewering, and most effectively in politics. It's funny and deadly serious at the same time and absolutely should not be relegated to a humor forum. If you don't get satire, or can't identify it when it appears, at least let the rest of us appreciate it for what it really is - an icepick in the eye of people like Trump.
