Ted Cruz divulges that he hasn't raised enough money to compete with Beto O'Rourke's TV ads

NOOR AL-SIBAI
30 AUG 2018 AT 16:51 ET

During a Republican gathering in North Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) admitted that he hasn’t raised enough money to compete with Beto O’Rourke’s TV ads.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the sitting senator complained about voters being “flooded” with ads from his challenger — and acknowledged that O’Rourke out-fundraised him.

“We’re seeing the airwaves flooded [with O’Rourke’s TV ads],” Cruz said. “We’ve got to save our resources to turn out and mobilize conservatives.”

GOP operatives that spoke with the Star-Telegram said much of the fervently Obama-opposing voters that led to Cruz’s election to the Senate in 2012 have shifted their focuses elsewhere.

“All of the grassroots enthusiasm that drove tea party fundraising spends all of its time supporting [Donald] Trump on Twitter,” one operative told the newspaper. “There so much focus on Trump, it’s really sucked a lot of the oxygen out of the small-dollar enthusiasm.”

Cruz himself seemed to note that opposition to the current president is driving his opponent’s constituency.

Gee, all that "grassroots enthusiasm that drove the tea party" didn't last, huh? Who could have possibly foreseen that those grassroots weren't really all that deep, or that they don't have time to worship anyone but the Emperor Trump?

his own unpopularity to the Trumpster LOL.

Poor baby! When you sleep with dogs . . . and all that.

What I read this morning is Cruz is trying to get out-of-state donors to turn on the spigots but the cost of advertising is high in Texas and basically even the donors don't like Cruz.

What's a weasel to do????

SCOTUS. It was not good enough to get out of Texas before the 2018 campaign season.

Sorry, Ted -- to remain viable, you have to run for reelection to the US Senate and win. Not looking good for you.

They should run an ad, in his district, with this picture, and audio of Trump bashing Cruz

Followed by this shot. And some audio about him being such a wimp and loser.

Not to play for Democrat voters, but for Republican voters. It might just confuse the dotards enough to stay home.

But Cruz often uses some notion of hyper-inflated masculinity that he supposedly has as a plus over whatever opponent he's dealing with, but like many have pointed out, cuddling up to Trump after he insulted your wife and never getting an apology is no way to be, "a man."

And at the risk of speaking ill about the dead, the only thing I actively disliked about McCain (other than his inflicting Sarah Palin on us) was his cuddling up with W. after W's campaign went dirty on him, claiming that one of his adopted daughters of Bangladesh origins, was the result of - of course - his having an affair with a Black woman. That picture of him giving W. a hug should have instead been a remake of that famous picture of Ali standing over Sonny Liston.

Anyone who lies as much as Ted Cruz does. They're always corrupt and Ted Cruz is probably one of the very worried people in Congress if he accepted ANY money from putin and russia funneled to him from the NRA. We already can see the KGOP are protecting trump, putin , and now the russian mafia's boss, how corrupt. Also Ted did nothing to stop children being abused by trump , and have been abused, intentionally damaged permanently from their actions, and Ted did nothing. He'll also vote to further destroy Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security, and the people of Texas know he helped take away health care for millions just to enrich the super wealthy more. People are running away from the most hated person in all of Congress, and he's hated for many reasons.

I’m going all out, and using their own tactics this time.

Phone banking, canvassing and donating to Beto and Lizzie Fletcher to do everything I can to help get out the vote for like minded people, but I’m also:

When engaging with those who are Con’s and Trump types, I play false friend and say that I just can’t support Cruz and Culberson because of “their attacks on Trump in 2016.. they don’t deserve my support.. they need to be replaced with real conservatives.. blah blah blah.” Put that bug in their fox raddled brains and hopefully depress their desire to get out and vote at all.

I’ve also started engaging some of the traditional republicans who supported Cruz in the ‘16 primary, and still are not big fans of 45 with lines like “I used to have great respect for Culberson and Cruz, but I just can’t abide how they’ve laid down and rolled over to support that horrible person in the White House. Can we really keep on supporting someone who let trump insult his wife, then gets in bed with this president?” With this tactic, I’ve already got my neighbor across the street now joining me in canvassing for Lizzie, and Beto, and he and his wife now have yard signs for both as well (both were Culberson and Cruz for president in 2016). These types will never go full Democratic Party support, but at the least this can deenergize them enough to not vote, and such as with my neighbor actually effect a flip for this particular election cycle.

No more well thought out, logical, and fact based arguments from me.. I’m going all out disingenuous manipulation, and appealing to their base flaws to get what I want, and this country needs.
