I have a cat that I swear saved my life. I was depressed, but she livened up my life in ways that you cannot imagine. She jumped in my lap one day, and won my heart.
I love her so much because she was a method towards me loving myself again. It is amazing how our animal friends can heal us when we can't heal ourselves. I will always be blessed that I had a cat that did so.

(39,961 posts)I've ever seen. She caught 8 voles in one day. I just don't know what to do with the kitten when she isn't patrolling the garden. Eight of them. Displayed for my viewing so that they didn't eat the collards, cucumbers and tomatoes.

I am glad that you have that love in your life.

(6,262 posts)After my dear husband's death.
When he departed, thought I would not recover. Then another rescue Westie pup made me laugh again.
Still makes me get up and go and laugh at least once a day after 13 years.
Dread that terrible day of loss, but treasure each moment of a warm pup on my lap and a spirited companion. Means the world. So much so, I shape my daily life around being a good "parent."

(39,961 posts)And this tabby cat came along and brightened up my day. She's one of the best friends I've ever had
She was starving to death, too. I feel horrible that any animal can be as hungry as that poor soul could. She jumped in my lap, though, when I put out some food for her to eat, and she became my buddy.

(34,115 posts)and that she needed you. Funny how that happens. They are so smart and such good creatures. I bet she would say the same thing about you.

(39,961 posts)What is the best gift that you give a lonely soul? Another lonely soul. We kind of matched. She's fat now, after weighing next to nothing, and I'm a lot happier.
Funny how life works, isn't it?

(34,115 posts)Nothing like unconditional love when you are unloved, lonely and hungry.
Every creature deserves to feel love, both to give it and to receive it.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)That was so starved. I fell in love with her when she leaped into my lap when I had the kindness to feed her.
How can you not feed a creature that is so thin you can practically look through them? She acted like I was the best person on the planet because I fed her.

(26,289 posts)The house was filthy, piled to the ceiling with junk, and there was one, narrow, cluttered path running through the house. When Sophie (the first one rescued) first arrived, all she wanted to do was stretch, her full length, and PULL herself across the carpet from one end of the house to the other. She had never, in her young life (she was still a kitten) ever had room to stretch.
For the longest time, every time I fell asleep she would scream and JUMP on me. Very disconcerting. Thankfully, she's gotten over that one. I wonder if it had something to do with her previous owner passing out for extreme lengths of time. Maybe she was afraid I'd forget to feed her, too.

(39,961 posts)But I still eat critters. I lived with a vegan, and tried it out. I lost so much weight I was a rail. Ironically, it was also in Florida LOL. The peanut butter "ribs" were the last straw.

(33,688 posts)not for my dear late Max. Several years ago the only reason I didn't lie down on the railroad tracks, so to speak, was I was so concerned about what would happen to him. I was having a horrible major depressive spisode, the worst of my life, but he was there always.
He would sit with me and purr and purr, trying to make me feel better, always staying close.
I have loved my cats more than any human being I have ever known. Critters are the best.

(39,961 posts)She's just the best. Friendly, feisty and ferocious when I do something as simple as throw a ball in the yard for her. I can't help but smile when she catches it and returns it - which doesn't happen often. I cannot seem to teach her to fetch like other cats I've had LOL. I think she's playing me most of the time.

(39,961 posts)For certain. I was so depressed, I didn't think there was much worth living for until she came along. She is just a plain joy in my life. I throw a ball in the yard and she runs for it and it makes me smile like an idiot LOL. I didn't think something so simple as throwing a ball for a cat to catch could make me happy, but it does.

(67,817 posts)The picture here, in another thread, just a few days ago, of the homeless man sleeping with his dog tells a small part of the story.
I only wish we, as a species, returned it.

(2,682 posts)She is 2 years old, very assertive and inquisitive (until the doorbell rings). She even fetches toys to initiate play. However, she does have a bit of the killer in her. The first time she tried to kill us, she got behind the dryer and managed to flip the unused gas switch -- we heard the sound of escaping gas and got it stopped and duct-tapped down before the house blew up. The second time she tried to kill was when she was in the rafters in the garage over my desk area. She somehow managed to flip a huge snowboard down right behind me, narrowly averting a blow to the head. Otherwise, she is a lovely cat, right? Right?
