I am not so sure Romney is scared so much as the Republicans are looking for their excuse to unleash the super PAC's between the conventions and election day. They used the 1988 Democratic convention to explain the attacks against Michael Dukakis. When John Mccain said that George W Bush 'Lies like Clinton', Rove cranked up the South Carolina smear machine. This smells like a similar setup. So let's not get cocky and assume Romney is crying 'No mas'.

(18,115 posts)This is mitt reeling. It is time to go for the jugular. He thinks he is going to get a big bump from the running mate announcement and the convention. He needs to be knocked back down every single day.
The PACs are here and are only going to get worse. I am just happy to see there are some Dem PACs playing hardball too. This is a zero-sum game.

(10,602 posts)Romney's plea is just a ploy to suck Obama in. It is like the old movie metaphor where a beaten enemy sucks you in and gets you close so they can stab you. Heroes make the mistake of mercy and fail to blow them away like they should. There should be no mercy. Put this guy away and the GOP as soon as you have the opportunity.
Put him down and kick him while he is down.

(52,302 posts)a lot of it has to do with the fact that rmoney has spent much of his primary money.
after the conventions he'll unleash his general funds.
in the meanwhile all he can do is whine.

(1,947 posts)back and Obama isn't responding in kind: he is telling the truth, not engaging in the kind of lying and distortions. It's ironic that he would try to invoke a time when politicians would take down inaccurate ads. The out-of-context quotes he's been using to invert the meaning of Obama's words used to be emblematic of dirty Southern politics: usually the ads would be run the day before the election, so there could be no response.
