I'm curious: How many Americans are paid directly out of their employer's personal income?

You hear all this crap about how raising the taxes on rich people's incomes will somehow affect jobs, that they are "job creators" per their job description, but it seems as though the spin-masters have managed to convince the public that personal income is somehow the same as the company's income.

Heck, I work at a freakin' BANK, and I guarantee you our job-creation is not influenced by the personal salary of what's-his-name our current CEO. Yeah, he surely has stock, and might make decisions based upon that, but we're not laying people off because he gets an extra 2% taken out of his paycheck. That's absurd.

But, if I were a cashier at Mom & Pop's hardware, it's much more likely that their personal income taxes will play a role in their decisions, but so will the amount of business they are doing. In that case, my job would rely on both.

So yes, there are scenarios where personal income tax can affect the creation or loss of a job, so how many jobs out there fall into that category?

The republicans are telling us that if Bill Gates has to pay an additional 2% in income, then Microsoft will have to send out some pink slips. The whole "job-creators" Luntzism is making broke Walmart employees (um, I mean "associates&quot somehow think the bratty Walton kids are small-business owners!

I have no idea how many Americans are being paid directly from someone's personal salary, and I'm too lazy to look for it, but I am curious

If their taxes go up, he/she may not have room in personal income to give you a raise. Depends how stretched he/she is. Or maybe they will lay off people.

Go ask. I'm curious to know the answer.

If Mom and Pop's taxable income is over 250K, a few extra tax points shouldn't hurt.

However, if I did hire employees, the expenses of hiring them would be subtracted from taxable earnings.
