Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh goes back before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, as senators receive their first chance to publicly interview President Trumps nominee for the Supreme Court.

10:30 a.m.: Kavanaugh declines to say if Roe v. Wade was correctly decided, says he does not live in a bubble on the issue
Kavanaugh repeatedly testified Wednesday that Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that legalized abortion, was settled precedent while indicating he recognizes the real-world consequences of the issue, saying: I dont live in a bubble.
But under questioning from Feinstein, Kavanaugh did not say whether Roe was correctly decided a punt that could give Democrats and abortion-rights supporters an opening to argue that the nominee could ultimately overturn the decision.
One of the important things to keep in mind about Roe v. Wade is that it has been reaffirmed many times over the last 45 years, as you know, and most prominently, most importantly reaffirmed in Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1992, Kavanaugh testified.
Feinstein, who earlier cited the hundreds of thousands of women who had died due to illegal abortions in the years before Roe, appeared unpersuaded.

He'd be for or against depending on his idea of what was "authorized," whatever that would be. Abortion would be unauthorized -- except when the government wanted to impose mandatory abortion on women, then it'd be authorized.

(5,754 posts)the states that outlaw abortion will need to immediately pass a large tax increase to build new schools and in about 6 years hire a lot of teachers. Acquiring the land will need to start immediately, and construction will follow soon after that. I remember double sessions from the baby boom. Maybe that will happen again.

(12,681 posts)Which pretty much means he doesn't give two f**s about women's rights or even human rights, he's pretty much a White Nationalist misogynist (with their need to force those uppity White brood-mares to settle down and pop out more perfect and righteous Male Anglo babies to make sure the sub-humans can't rise up and take over) more interested in social control than he is about anyone who can't join his clubs.
