Romney's decision to choose Ryan for VP was very similar to McCain's decision to choose Palin.

Both were made out of necessity. Just like McCain, Romney had to make a dramatic move to win over his base. Otherwise, he was going to slip further and further behind.

He was no longer able to think of picking someone to help him win Ohio or Florida or the Hispanic vote. He had to choose someone who could help him win his base, just like McCain.

After all, if a drowning man is in the middle of an ocean, he will grasp at a straw. That is what Romney has done in choosing Ryan as his VP. It was an act of desperation.

However, I think the discussion on cutting Medicare may be a more effective issue for the Democrats than the discussion about Bain and taxes. People have probably already formed their decisions about Bain and taxes. The Medicare debate is a new weapon that has been handed to the Democrats like a gift.

6. No way will Romney get a pass on Bain and taxes - this makes that situation even worse.

I doubt that the Obama team would be foolish enough to let go of a huge strategic advantage. They're now running against a tax-cheat ticket that wants to take Medicare away from old people to give rich people even more tax breaks.

The ads write themselves.

3. It was similar in that the decision was made for him by the right wing base of his party

McCain was steamrolled by the neocons led by the always wrong Bill Kristol who had a bad case of steaming undies for palin. He really had no choice in the matter.

It's more or less the same for Romney. He isn't in a position of strengh. His candidacy is floundering and he's afraid of pissing off the wing nut money men in his party.

Romney will put on his fake smile and mouth a few platitudes about this but I'm almost sure he can't really be happy that he had to do this. It will further weaken his candidacy when his running mate makes him look like a dolt.

running extreme RWers against slightly more moderate Republicans, so that they could completely own the Kansas legislature as well as the governor. They are perfectly willing to destroy less extreme Republicans in their long game to own the most extreme RW candidates.

The Koch brothers want a complete takeover of the nation so that they can scoop up all tax dollars to enrich themselves. They want zero government spending on anything that helps anybody but themselves. They are multi-billionaires who are complete narcissists.

McCain choosing Palin was dumb pandering, designed to open the door to stimulate extreme right wing radicalism but lose the election and allow Republicans to shift the blame for the Bush Crash devastation onto the Democrats. To get Republican legislators to obstruct most attempts to create jobs and repair the vast damage and then use the resulting Misery Index as their marketing tool in 2012.

This is a declaration of war against democracy. War against the majority of voters who wanted their taxes to go into Social Security and Medicare and regulation of corporations to protect the environment, health and safety of the majority of citizens, even if it cuts into private profits.
