Ohio's wealthiest GOP donor quits his party.

The wealthiest supporter of the GOP in Ohio said Thursday that he is no longer a member of the Republican Party.

“I just decided I’m no longer a Republican,” L Brands CEO Leslie Wexner said during a panel discussion at a leadership summit, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Wexner, who said he’s been a Republican since college, added that he is now an independent, before saying that he “won’t support this nonsense in the Republican Party” anymore.

The development came just a day after former President Obama slammed GOP lawmakers during a rally in Ohio for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray.

Wexner called Obama’s visit to Ohio this week a “great moment for the community,” according to the Dispatch.
“I was struck by the genuineness of the man; his candor, humility and empathy for others,” Wexner said. (read more)

He’ll likely start supporting anti-Trump Republicans in primaries, independents, and some Democrats.

I’ve got one neighbor, and his wife, and their daughter.. all of which were Cruz for President during the 2016 primary, and been supporting Culberson for at least a decade now canvassing, donating to, sporting signs for, and voting for Beto and Lizzie this year.

Some in my HOA that I’ve carried conversations with in the past are now just not voting at all. Can’t bring themselves to stick with Cruz and Culberson, but can’t bring themselves to vote for Democratic Party candidates either. Will no-vote except on state and local level candidates and ballot measures.

He's just realizing that Obama is genuine and thoughtful?

I'll take the support and votes wherever and whenever we can get it, but people need to be smarter.

I'm not impressed. Let's see Wexner try to undo some of the damage that he helped create.

No one suddenly changes overnight and the writing has been on the wall for decades over what the GOP was turning into because of their decision to focus on courting the worst of the worst as their voting base so I do not believe that Wexner is sincere.

I had been a College Republican. I was conservative. But I had my doubts. Then I heard Limbaugh....

And I DID change overnight. I re-evaluated everything. But then, I was 24... not in middle age. But better late than never.

however this guy had decades of funding and supporting the GOP and now he expects us to believe he suddenly had a change of heart? I am not believing it for a second, if anything its probably because he is getting hurt in the pocket book in some way with what they are doing but as soon as that goes away he will go right back to supporting them again.
