There are plenty of other qualified ( and probably already vetted) candidates to take Kavanaugh's place. The only thing that sets Kavanagh apart is his apparent willingness to give the President a pass on almost everything. The Republicans could produce another candidate that checks all of their boxes except that one. The only reason to fight to keep Kavanaugh would be to save the President. How much heat are Republicans willing to take to protect this President at the possible expense of their own jobs.

(146,288 posts)All male high schools seem to generate that kind of misogyny, somehow. It seems to have carried through to Yale, as well. If I were a woman, I'd keep my distance from the asshole, for sure.

(146,288 posts)That environment doesn't turn everyone in it into misogynists, of course. However, it appears to me to have that effect on more people than coeducational environments do. I learned about girls and women by being around them. They taught me about that, beginning at age five.
I've known many people who grew up in both environments. My observations are my observations.

(42,700 posts)And if they won't, how does it matter that Kavanaugh will? And if they will, do you think there aren't plenty of other potential repub nominees that would join them?

(11,581 posts)So it is not just that he will support the orange traitor and "give the president a pass on almost everything."
He is the well-groomed product of a pipeline managed by the likes of the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. They want him in place furthering their agenda.
We are finding ourselves fighting a strange alliance: Russia, and conservative and libertarian oligarchs right here on our soil.

(11,885 posts)If they took and funneled money from russians , and putin , for themselves or their campaigns, and kavanuagh is tied to russians and putin and trumps dealings, they're not registered as foreign lobbyist , and acting for a foreign government and not registered, a federal crime, and a conspiracy against the USA , along with kavanaugh . Any of them who vote FOR him if any of this has happened they are going to be charged, and under no circumstances will he get into that position , or be able to stay in that position. The Senators better think long and hard what they do , and if they vote for him , it'll backfire quickly if many know and use it against them. Did kavanuagh get money funneled from an russian oiligarch ? Who has close ties to putin?

(8,322 posts)a bit more difficult to oppose. But only if they pull Kavanaugh quickly, get the next man up and queried, and rushed through in similar fashion before the midterms.
Which shouldn't be happening the first time with Kavanaugh.

That's how they justify it. If it's GOP-based, it's good politics.
If it's Dem-based, it's dirty politics.

(14,565 posts)I am reading these threads in amazement that anyone believes the process will change.
Kavanaugh will be confirmed.
The only thing that might change is some Democrats in red states facing tough campaigns might be more comfortable voting No.
I have no doubt the 35 year old claims are true, and worse than we realize. The other side is marching forward to load the courts. They will laugh at any thought of this as an obstacle.
