I'm planning on seeing it with friends but I DON'T want to hear bashing of the Dems (which Michael Moore does sometimes). Has anyone seen it yet or heard anything?

(26,366 posts)One of the reasons I made this movie is that Ive come to the conclusion that the old guard of the Democratic Party is a greater roadblock to social progress than Trump is, Moore said in an interview.

(92,061 posts)same garbage of trashing Democrats when Ashley Judd stopped him before he got started, that told me he was back to his old 2000 antics, where he was so proud to say "a vote for Gore is a vote for bush"
Far as I am concerned instead of motivating people to get out to vote, he does more to discourage and divide people.
All through 2016 he was saying the Democrats are going to lose. Great message Moore, and I wonder how many of those self-identifed progressives who refused to vote for the Democratic nominee by either voting third party, or not voting were motivated by that message, "what does it matter anyway"
So I am through with that jerk
Far as I am concerned he can go F himself along with Stein, Sarandon, and the rest assholes who did everything to demoralize and undermine the most guilible

(42,862 posts)He's attacking and denigrating Democrats so that he can line his own pockets.
It's just another repackaging of the same old BS argument we heard from Nader and Sarandon (and "others" who falsely claim there's "no-difference-between-Democrats-and-Republican".
Michael Moore can go fuck himself! (Ewwww!)

(25,380 posts)A caricature of Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama sipping fancy champagne and nibbling horse d'ervers with Meryl Streep on David Geffen's yacht? It's weird.

(16,313 posts)And then as the election got closer, he started to find things to nitpick about. And then, once he was in office, it was basically non-stop criticism. So fuck Michael Moore, and the very tired horse he rode in on.

(3,147 posts)Now, like many here I won't give him the time of day. I still think he has a purpose in engaging Indy's and never Trumppers. So I guess he's got to take a few shots at Democrats to sell tickets.
If he's blaming Obama, I'll continue look elsewhere. I've heard a lot of good things about the "Active Measures" documentary.

(16,313 posts)It has been well received. My hunch is Jack Bryans (the director) approach is a lot more informative than Moores hackneyed circus antics. and unlike moore it sounds as if Bryan knows who the enemy is. Its quite brutal on Putin, I hear.

(1,975 posts)One of the major factors, other than Russians posing as Americans to sow disdain, division, and confusion. There was a complete anti PC attitude from those on the right and center, especially online.
In a climate like that, Trump was all but destined to win.

(58,605 posts)1. I don't do movies, mostly I can't afford it. Largely I don't like the kind of movies they make these days.
2. MM wore out his formula long ago. His movies may change in subject matter, but the techniques he uses didn't.
Moore has lost any appeal I used to have for him.

(20,411 posts)he predicted trump would be candidate while there were still 10-11 repubs still running.
he predicted trump would focus on MW key states - and that was key
he predicted Hillary's unfavorables would be a key issue
he highlighted older, RW male's anger as a key issue
I know he is not liked much around here these days - not because he is supporting anyone from the gop, but because he makes statements that reflect poorly on our party. Sometimes the truth hurts . . . but we should come face-to-face with it.

(25,150 posts)I liked Michael Moore's first documentary about Flint. (It was made in the 80s) It was well done and focused.
When I tried to watch Bowling for Columbine, the subject went here, there and everywhere...Was it about guns? Osama bin Laden? 911? Iraq? South Park? I watched for awhile and it didn't seem to have a focus. Maybe a high school or young college student would like that style, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't know...as a matter of fact, I felt it was for a dumbed down group. So I turned it off after 1/2 hour or so.

(3,286 posts)Without Michael Moore, American citizens would know nothing about how the rest of the world deals with social problems and would continue happily serving the interests of corporations. Sad to see so many choosing to remain un-informed.

(25,586 posts)I mean, come on, man. Im sure you knew about the rest of the world before Michael Moore started making films I certainly did. Books, magazines, the internet, and other (better) documentarians existed before MM and will continue to exist after his inevitable stroke.
The notion that our only source of valid information and knowledge is a disheveled ideologue with a penchant for agitprop just doesnt cut it in an age where everyone you know has the accumulated knowledge of human history in their phone. Youll learn more about the rest of the world in a good newspaper or a single issue of a quality magazine than in Moores entire oeuvre.

(3,286 posts)...there are a few facets of American life that nobody was talking about before MM made movies about them.
The auto industry, the medical industry, the gun industry, the prison system just to name a couple....
But as liberal artists are being mowed down en masse, I wonder who will be left who have the platform to confront corporatism.

(29,322 posts)Farenheit 9/11 brought up a lot of facts that were ignored by the pro war news media at the time. I remember how bad it was for anti war voices during those days.

(3,286 posts)...before he made movies. He had a television show that made him sound like a Canadian. We eagerly anticipated his first movie thinking that it was another voice in the futile battle to make the USA more democratic.
But we forgot that Americans would rather talk about change than do it.
