Sorry---I heard a vote for him is a wasted vote

(130,895 posts)Yes, wasting your vote; not enabling anyones to know that you WANT to vote Dem, even in red state 'that Obama won't win.'

Only a vote not cast is wasted.

(108,977 posts)Richard Nixon won 49 states. George McGovern, 1.
Anything can happen, and much can change between the end of polling and an actual election.
Besides, if you don't vote, how are you going to help Obama get the Congress that he needs to achieve progressive goals? Even the reddest state has some Democratic office holders.

(13,420 posts)It is very tough to be a Dem in my state (Kansas) right now.

(108,977 posts)Why would a good Democrat run if he thinks even Democrats won't vote for him?

Good advice.
It is your vote to cast or not cast in any manner you choose. What others think is frankly immaterial.

(22,308 posts)Just vote a straight (D) ticket. It helps all the other Democrats in your state when they know that you are out there willing to show up and vote even though you won't win this cycle. There is more to voting than the one election.

(27,787 posts)We turned NC blue, kicked Liddy Dole to the curb, and then got to go to bed relatively early knowing that Obama had already won.
Losers stay home.
McCain damn near lost his own state!! Even he thinks it's possible that Pres. Obama could win Arizona this election. But, there are a lot of us Dems in "higher" country that live in bright red areas that read this kind of crap and agree. I almost lost my mind trying to convince Dems in my town to friggin' vote. Many said it was a "waste of time" because Arizona is a red state. If all those pessimists had voted, we may very well have put Arizona on Pres. Obama's list of accomplishments.

(27,787 posts)The only way the GOP can win is block or suppress the vote.

(53,956 posts)It doesn't mean I won't vote. A vote is NEVER wasted, IMO. I may not agree with how someone votes, but as Americans, we should ALWAYS vote.

(34,661 posts)No way in HELL will we not vote and it will be for Obama!!! Hear this garbage every day,Romney's kids have winter homes in my area, crap is still crap. Unbelievable intimidation coming from the locals. Only information these low I.Q. voters gets, comes from GOP-TV (FOX).
We will have our local Caucasus's in April and the usual 12-15 Dems will be there doing our best. All of us are retired Union folks, imagine the pain we see, right to work state where the Tea Baggers(GOP) have taken the seniority away for the Teachers Union. And we have not seen the end to this sh*t.

(36,974 posts)Hell, Obama won ALL of our largest cities/counties (except for one) here in Texas in 2008.
Obama got over 3.5 MILLION votes down here from us Texans.
Texas is now more BLUE than red

(6,336 posts)However, if you live in a state that is deep red, you might want to get involved with your local and/or county Democratic party and think about some candidates to run at the local levels.
The way to rebuild a Democratic party is from the ground up, and the smaller the race, the more it affects you. What your mayor does is going to affect you a lot more directly than anything Obama (or any other president) does.

(32,083 posts)I take great joy in knowing that my vote will cancel out that of one of the idiot wingnuts who surround me. BTW, even in my reddest of "red" states, President Obama leads every last rethug candidate in the latest polls. That he "won't win" any state is not a given.
