The power of chatter

I have been thinking about this for a while. My Republian friends and family are very open about their political opinions, spouting and spewing everywhere they go, in every way. On Facebook, in person, everywhere.

I've always been a bit shy to be so open about my political opinions. I feel like I should be nice and kind and quiet about these things.

This is my new thought: There is a power in chatter. They talk so much, that what they say becomes perceived as truth, even if it is not truth. Like the whole sift boating thing. Lies, all of it, but repeated often enough it starts to feel like truth. The misquote of Gore where they claim he said he single handedly invented the internet. A lie, but repeated so often it's treated like truth.

We have to speak up every opportunity we get. In the past, I think they've had the edge here. If we don't want them to continue to have this edge, we have to shut it down ourselves. Not the Obama campaign, or the DNC, or anyone else. It's about us, in everyday conversations, on Facebook, everywhere there is chatter. We have to be as loud as they are - at least. We have to be heard. We can't be shy about our politics.

only thing is it's harder to challenge the 'default' than to parrot it.
