Fox News host Chris Wallace on Thursday reacted to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by calling it a disaster for Republicans.
After the first break in Dr. Christine Blasey Fords testimony about her experience with Kavanaugh, Wallace said that the Republicans had made a mistake by calling in an experience prosecutor, Rachel Mitchell, to question the accuser.
This was extremely emotional, extremely raw, and extremely credible, Wallace said of Blasey Fords testimony. And nobody could listen to her deliver those words and talk about the assault and the impact it had on her life and not have your heart go out to her.
This is a disaster for for the Republicans, he continued. [The GOP prosecutor] is treating this like a deposition, like a court hearing and as a result, were now 15 minutes in. If theres one round of 11 senators, thats 55 minutes, shes basically almost a third done and she hasnt gotten anything from this woman.
And meanwhile, the Democrats are landing haymakers, Wallace added, noting that Blasey Ford had recalled the laughter of Kavanaugh when he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The Democrats are making their points and building her credibility and Rachel Mitchell hasnt landed a glove on this witness, he pointed out.

Just wait until it is Kavanaugh turn. See how credible he is.

(1,975 posts)That the president is getting signal from FOX news/Hannity, he even said as much yesterday during his, "Emporer has no clothes" news conference yesterday.
So to get a feel what the Republicans are going to do, the obvious answer albeit stomach churning answer, is to watch FOX News.

(23,946 posts)been a disaster for Republicans?
It was always going to be that way when they refused a full investigation and insisted an accomplished Dr. Ford tesify first. Investigation later....
And in the background I think I see the ghost of Senator Al Franken and Republican hypocrisy's veil being lifted.

(8,923 posts)an investigation. Normally there's an investigation and the two sides form their questions and cases from the facts discovered in the investigation. What has the prosecutor got to go on?
I bet the Republicans never try this approach again.

(15,286 posts)They have tried several times in the past also but this one may be successful. Drive a stake through their tiny hearts.

(37,648 posts)Maybe, MAYBE, one or two Repubs will pull support for him. Maybe not. But most, in the male bastion of the Senate (which has a long history of being a male-only-and-we-like-it-that-way, boys-will-be-boys body), don't care if it's true. Maybe he did it, and that wasn't nice. But so what? He's a conservative & is married now and will rule the way we want. That's all that matters.
I just hope no Democrat votes for him.
Things haven't changed that much in the Senate vis-a-vis women, since 1991, when 11 Democrats voted to confirm Clarence Thomas.

(940 posts)Conservative commentators will turn on her and blame her for their failure. They are going to blame and vilify a woman.

(4,341 posts)Republicans have confirmed with this farce that they are cowards, like their leader trump, and that they are unpatriotic. The chaos that Kavanaugh will create if confirmed is what every dictator wishes for.
Kavanaugh is the biggest weapon the republicans have presented so far in their war on democracy, make no mistake about it.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving group of smug, pasty men.

(22,803 posts)what her job is. First of all, she is not acting as a prosecutor in this case. She is questioning an alleged victim of sexual assault to explore the credibility of her story. Secondly, she is doing exactly what an experienced professional sexual assault prosecutor who has written a manual, and given talks, that recommend questioning victims of sexual assault with a "neutral fact-finding attitude" placing "the best interest of the victim" first.
I mean, those who prosecute sex offenders? Their sympathies lie with the victim and it sure showed today.
Pfffffft!!

she was too honest for a Republican. She must be an old fashioned Republican.

(1,896 posts)By the time Hannity and the rest of the "opinion" crowd get through with it--never mind Limbaugh and Levin--Ford will have confessed to bombing Pearl Harbor. Reality hasn't mattered to the GOP for many years, and I'm not betting on this afternoon being the turning point.
But it's still good to know truth has its day, and I do hope this is just enough to keep Kavanaugh off the Court.
duforsure
(11,885 posts)Was a major disaster for trump and his puppets. Dr Ford blew past them after every turn and was very credible throughout her testimony. How long now before its officially over for kavanaugh? I doubt very long, maybe before the day is over they'll admit it by announcing he is no longer a candidate, because he won't be there long if they still pass him onto the bench . He will be removed anyway . He's lied under oath , and will again today by denials. His nomination by trump was a complete failure from the start, like this hearing has been too.
