(105,026 posts)key players have given R's an ultimatum, it has been reported that Turtle face may prefer to lose a (hopefully for him) close vote to show they (supposedly) gave it their "all" than to pull it.
I think that speculation may be less likely now, but I haven't heard anything recently to suggest otherwise.

(12,344 posts)That won't happen this time. Two Repubs will tell him no and he will stop the vote.

(82,849 posts)I have read rumors that McConnell didn't really want Judge Kreepazoid put forward as the nominee for this vacancy. McConnell's been a loyal underling to the White House so far, but if the rumor is true, McConnell's enough of a rat bastard that he would bring the nomination to a floor vote and let Judge Kreepazoid get voted down.
Here's my thinking, keeping in mind McConnell's inherent rat bastardness: Kreepazoid loses his vote, goes back to his sinecure on the DC Circuit, and picks up where he left off. Privately, McConnell goes to a chastened White House and tells them they need to listen to him next time about nominations. Publicly, McConnell blames Democrats for Kreepazoid's failure, and he cries some crocodile tears about what a horrible thing has been done to this good man. To the donor base, he has a Bork for a new generation to gin up the outrage and victimization that is the province of the wealthy when they don't get their way.
