4. I worked on my HS yearbook and yes, the yearbook staff had some fun with the captions...

...but EVERY caption was rooted in fact. EVERY comment we made about someone was thought about and "tested" among a group of us. It was 1979 and we purposefully asked ourselves as editors...is this consistent with who this person it ?


And I don't think we were ahead of our time. That's just what we were always taught to do.

15. But I do have a little confession about that yearbook that nobody ever noticed...

Junion Prom is coming up. My best friend and I had dates from the neighborhood and made plans to go. It was a big deal - first Tux dance and all that. Like 3 weeks before the Prom, his girlfriend doesn't come through with some tickets for a concert in town and he throws a pissy fit.

We're standing at a pay phone and he's yelling at her blah blah blah...and he slams down the phone, looks at me and says "f'ck it, I'm going with Marilynn".

Wait. What? The Marilynn I'm going with? Yeah - we've been dating on the side so she and I are going to go.

I was like What the f'ckity f-ck...how did that happen. I ended up, seriously, going with my cousin's cousin on the other side of the family. Needless to say - we weren't best friends after that.

Fast forward to senior year...his senior year picture is on a page with some other pictures that have him nuzzling up with the old girlfriend and the new girlfriend dancing around with a couple football players doing a little wet t-shirt game of some kind. I don't even know what was going on.

Damn it was fun to make all that permanent...and nobody noticed.
