...and how Mitchell glossed over it in her questioning:

Editing to add excerpts for those who can't use the link above:
It was Kavanaughs hope that providing those calendars would show that he attended no such gathering. He insisted, in his testimony Thursday, that any party of the sort must have been on a weekend (since he and his friends had jobs) and that the calendars showed that essentially all of the weekends were booked with other activities. (His friend Mark Judge, in a memoir about his past drinking problem, wrote that this wasnt a concern of his: Hed regularly show up at work hung over or drunk.)
Rachel Mitchell, hired by the Republican majority of the Senate Judiciary Committee to navigate the questioning of Kavanaugh and Ford, pointed to one particular calendar entry that got some attention after the calendars came out. It read:
Tobins House Workout / Go to Timmys for Skis w/ Judge, Tom, PJ, Bernie, Squi
The reference to skis is apparently to brewskis, or beers. The entry was July 1, a Thursday. Mitchell asked him about it.
-snip-
Notice two things here. First, that Squi was in attendance at the party someone who, we learned thanks to Mitchells questioning of Ford, was going out with Ford over the course of that summer. Second, notice those two other attendees, one of whom Mitchell highlighted: Mark Judge and P.J. Smyth.
-snip-
We noted Thursday, too, that the time frame of this July 1 party fits with Fords testimony. She says that six to eight weeks after the alleged assault, she saw Judge working at a store in the area. Judges book indicates that he was working at that store for several weeks in early to mid-August.
This is a central point to Fords allegation. Kavanaugh denies knowing her, denies being at a party with her. Here is an event in July where he was with several long-standing friends, two of whom were named by Ford and one of whom shed been going out with.
But Mitchells next question completely fumbles the point.
KAVANAUGH: I have.
MITCHELL: Is there anything that could even remotely fit what were talking about in terms of Dr. Fords allegations?
KAVANAUGH: No.
That was it. Mitchell changed the subject.
After that, GOP senators started asking their own questions.

(48,980 posts)I agree, though, that the Dems failed by NOT pointing this out.

(5,969 posts)And although this is only speculation, he stumbled a little bit during the discussion of that date and the participants. I hope that this info somehow gets to Ford. If the house still exists and is in the same form, it could be worthwhile to check out the house and see whether the rooms fit the memories.

(10,125 posts)"Columbia" is the "Columbia Country Club"
From Dr Ford's remarks
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/26/politics/ford-testimony/index.html
In the summer of 1982, like most summers, I spent almost every day at the Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland swimming and practicing diving.
One evening that summer, after a day of swimming at the club, I attended a small gathering at a house in the Chevy Chase/Bethesda area. There were four boys I remember being there: Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge, P.J. Smyth, and one other boy whose name I cannot recall. I remember my friend Leland Ingham attending. I do not remember all of the details of how that gathering came together, but like many that summer, it was almost surely a spur of the moment gathering.
Kavanaugh's calendar for July shows that this incident could well have occurred on July 7, 1982

(10,125 posts)nearly any of the other dates when he was not out of town.
Those two dates July 1 and July 7 are interesting because they have some specifics.
Because they are two examples of interest, they help to prove that the calendar he relies on really doesn't prove much at all.
One has to wonder about how able he is as a judge if he is grasping at straws like that.

(621 posts)If he and Dr. Ford did not travel within the same social circles, as he said (because they hung out with Catholic School girls, not regular private school girls-horror!) and lived so far apart that her story is simply improbable, how did she come up with random names of boys that he just happened to have on his calendar? She just GUESSED PJ out of the blue?

(118,285 posts)Kavanaugh claims he didnt know a woman who we learned was going out with his good friend

... On 13 occasions, Kavanaugh refers to someone named Squi on his calendar. Its the name that crops up the most. Kavanaugh and Squi, who played on the Georgetown Prep football team with him, went to a Washington Bullets game, to Squis house in Rehoboth, to see movies, to the beach. On July 1, Kavanaugh, Judge, PJ, Squi and two others go to Timmys for skis -- an apparent reference to going to a friends house for beers (brewskis) ...
... The shared connection to Kavanaugh was the person who Whelan suggested might be the real culprit ...
"He was somebody that, I will use the phrase I went out with, " Ford said, using air quotes. I wouldnt say date. I would say went out with for a few months. That was how we termed it at the time ...
... Kavanaughs calendar from that year shows that he spent a lot of time with Squi as well. And Kavanaugh further alleges that he may have met Ford but that they did not travel in the same social circle and that she was not a friend, not someone I knew ...

(62,270 posts)But I question if the Senators were told about it specifically. The date matches perfectly.
The idea is, you ask it specifically, then you just let it go, as if it was just a passing thing, and move on hoping no one catches wind of it. Unfortunately the Democratic Senators weren't clued in to its importance.
