Does Anyone Remember "The Preppy Handbook"?

Back in the early '80s, the "Original Preppy Handbook" came out. It was supposed to be a parody of Prepdom, but it was taken seriously by non-preps who wanted to look like they were preppies. People like the Kavanaughs were who this book was written about. All someone on a Democratic Senator's staff could have done was find a used copy of this book, and a lot of their questions would have been answered.

I might even have a copy of it lying around somewhere. It's a great satire of that "look" - Topsiders without socks, cloth belt with little whales, sweater tied around the neck, the whole thing. I think they still dress that way.

he and another khaki and topsidered pseudo preppy buddy decided to give me grief about my "hippy" attire and general appearance.

At least until I pointed out that unlike him and his fellow poser public school kid I actually had gone to and graduated from to a Prep school. I tossed off "Non est homo vestimenta sua."* just to drive the point home.
