1. The Tea Party never liked Romney, but Ryan's their Wonderboy.
2. Romney's strategy of bashing Obama was losing ground. The GOP increasingly dislike his campaign.
3. Romney's negative attention was escalating.
So he grabbed Wonderboy, held him up as a shield, and thought he had killed multiple birds with one stone.
Wrong.
Instead of gaining leverage and support from the Koch & Friends, this will be more like a short-lived family gathering for a photo filled with smiles. Once the cameras are down, they will return to hating each other. If anything, Romney has validated the centrality of the Koch brother ideology.
The FIRST thing Romney did after picking Ryan was to distance himself from Ryan's policies.
How long before the GOP are openly sniping each other?

(954 posts)The gossip indicates that nobody in the campaign supported Ryan as the pick.
Romney is an egotistical executive type.
I honestly doubt Romney caved into a call from a Koch or other funders. There is enough money on the Rove side and within Romney's campaign that I don't Mittard wants to cave in.
So he had to pick Ryan because he believed it gave him the upper hand somehow. That's what has been bothering me this weekend, trying to understand how Romney saw this as a win-win for himself when everybody else saw it as a win for Koch et al.

I respectfully disagree; the R&R love festival will continue until Nov. 7.

My guess would be that traditional republicans will soon be driven away. In that respect I hope that Huntsman is the first snowball in what becomes an avalanche away from the ediface of insanity that has become the republican right.

(954 posts)I think we can expect even more this time, unless Romney finds a way to REALLY shut the door on the Tea Party.
That's where he loses his pants in the story.

Romney and Ryan trying to lead a coherent platform is just sad.
