Foreign Cash Disqualifies Romney from Presidential Bid

No other American presidential candidate has ever left the US to garner campaign contributions from foreign citizens.

There is a reason for this, one Romney and his staff seem oblivious to and the mainstream media has ignored.
Using foreign contributions in any American election is a felony.

If you go outside the US, if you stay inside the US, if your contributor is living in the US but not a citizen, any money you get can mean years in jail.

In which case, he could probably bury some of that foreign money in American donations. Probably American bundler's that collected from foreign donors.

the Right would make it a capitol offense impeach him and execute him. When Romney does it, move along nothing to see here.

PAC funds vacuumed up the rest. To hell with moral and ethics, if it's legal, it's legal.

Romney did fundraising events in Isreal and Great Britain without even a raised eyebrow in the media, on DU or from the Obama campaign. Maybe it's a felony, but more than likely it's the new normal. Laws are for the little people.

whether he was there or not. And Michelle Obama has been at an overseas fundraiser in London. They do it to raise funds from Americans living abroad, who are generally an affluent group.

Candidates Look Overseas To Raise Campaign Funds

By JOSH LEDERMAN 07/30/12 04:38 AM ET AP

WASHINGTON -- In the hunt for campaign money, no distance is too far to travel, especially when the race between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney is tight and likely to stay that way into the fall.

The Democratic president and his Republican challenger have been aggressively courting Americans living abroad at fundraisers held far beyond U.S. shores. Such efforts serve the dual purpose of raising money to pay for what may be the most expensive election in U.S. history, and galvanizing a largely untapped group of eligible voters.

The practice is legal and has been used for decades, said former Federal Election Commission Chairman David Mason.

Obama has raised nearly $600,000 from Americans abroad while Romney has brought in about $325,000, according to campaign finance records analyzed by the Center for Responsive Politics. Those figures don't include sums raised overseas by both party committees or Romney's take from a pair of fundraisers in London during his visit there last week.

So if this disqualifies rMoney, it also disqualifies the President. You might want to delete your op.

btw, Mr. Duff is wrong that no other candidate for President has personally attended a fundraiser held abroad- that sleaze Guiliani did.

I fucking hate sloppy journalism. It's so easy to do some basic research.

Firstly, the Obama campaign also raises money from ex-pats...donors are still required to fill out disclosure forms. Now, I'm not sure if those rules apply to the SuperPacs who can take in money annonymously (easy mark for foreign money).

Reports are that Edleson is bundling Chinese money along with his millions...but who can know or tell as the disclosure laws are now a joke and even more specific, the FEC is an even bigger joke.

I'm certain there's a lot of foreign money filtering into this campaign and there's no one watching over where the money comes from. I'd go even further to believe that rmoney and his ilk have money launderers...as long as the cash is green.

I expect all sorts of campaign rules to be broken and ignored as the short term is all that matters and there's no real consequences after the election to candidates who do break laws.
