Mother Pence to supports GOP candidate who said women having jobs wasn't part of "God's design"

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/10/karen-pence-rally-behind-gop-candidate-complained-women-jobs-wasnt-part-gods-design/

Local news station WFAE reports that Pence on Friday will join a campaign rally for Mark Harris, a former pastor who has been sharply critical of women who decide to take jobs instead of staying home and supporting their husbands.

In a 2013 sermon, for example, Harris discussed “God’s plan for biblical womanhood” and ranted against “a culture and… an environment that have made it extremely difficult for any woman… to live out and fulfill God’s design.”

Additionally, Harris once lamented that modern women no longer have “basic” skills such as “how to prepare a meal, how to sew on a button, how to keep a home, how to respond to a husband.”

Harris has also talked in the past about his belief that wives should “submit” to their husbands, but he has insisted that doesn’t mean that women are technically inferior to men.

“[Jesus] didn’t consider it wrong to submit himself to the Father,” Harris explained to Roll Call earlier this year.

Back in the Stone Age women gathered most of the calories for their groups (and probably hunted smaller game and fish as well: recent studies indicate that big game hunts didn't contribute as much food as previously thought). When agriculture became a thing they worked in the fields planting, tending, and harvesting - the crops didn't care who took care of them. When people started living in larger communities women worked: preparing a meal usually meant going to a market every day for raw ingredients, processing them (those chickens don't de-feather thenselves!), kindling and maintaining the home fire - major work before the invention of matches!. They knew how to sew on buttons (once they were invented, at least), but they had to spin their own thread, and often weave their own cloth. Keeping a home was no easy task in an era of unpaved streets with roaming livestock, and water that needed to be fetched from a well or river.

When the Industrial Revolution hit Europe and the Americas many if not most of the factory workers were women. And as immigrants from southern and eastern Europe flooded the US in the late 19th/early 20th centuries women continued to work in factories, sweatshops, and at home because their families needed the extra pittance they brought it. The notion of middle-class women staying home really existed for a pretty small part of history - and even then for a small percentage of women. And I suspect a portion of those hired women who came in periodically to cook and clean.

So Ms Pence and Harris want some sort of fantasy world where the (white goes without saying) man is treated like a little tin god by the woman/women in his terem, who exist only to serve him. I prefer my fantasy worlds with hovercraft, spaceships, and transporter beams.

contemplate that and many of its women do far more than that. These people think the world has always been a 1950s sitcom. They are ill-informed as women have worked since time immemorial.

from the heavens and proclaim this? If so, I missing this headline. I'm getting sick and tired of all of these idiots who proclaim something based upon what God said. It's nonsense, and apparently God talks a whole lot more than all of us realize.

Just how stupid do you think we are out here in DU land (and other lands)?

Harris obviously has issues, serious issues, with female equals, and he's pretty saying it out loud, you are not equal, period.

Scumbag. All he's doing is trying to take away the rights of a whole segment of population so he can 'lord' it over all of them (but they're still equal...go figure).

So that the married womens don't have to work? Does he have a plan for the womens who don't have husbands? The ones who would rather marry another woman than a man?

I don't think Mr. Harris has really thought this through. Not surprising for someone who subscribes to such bad theology.
