Fire officials said the Wye Fire in Lake County was 25 percent contained. A second, smaller blaze known as the Walker Fire, near the border of Lake and Colusa counties, is now 30 percent contained.

(32,324 posts)We are all amazed that these two local fires are getting publicity.
Back in July, while the Colorado fire was raging, we had a fire of BIGGER size raging as well, just north of here in the Mendocino National Forest.
Sacramento and SF Bay area news media were offering up live feeds from their affiliates in Colorado - with NO mention of the fire that was right here.
Apparently the news teams are given so little funding from the parent companies that they cannot afford to send reporters the three hours north to get a bit of the news.
But now both SF Bay Area and the Sac news media are covering these fires. I don' t know what happened to turn the tide at station management, but what ever it was, thank goodness!
Some 400 people had to rely on a Red Cross shelter last night, after being evacuated from their homes. And today, some 45 households relied on the Red Cross and other local volunteers to provide meals.
I have my fingers crossed that the fires will be contained soon.

Thanks for posting that link. I wish we would have had the Internet during some of the Agoura fires many years ago. Everybody made out alright. A friend donated her barn by the freeway, horses and people roomed together for a night. Sure would have been easier with an Internet link.
to do anything. I had no idea; although I know horse people, and they care deeply.
