Art Laffer Spreading his nonsense on AM Joy

Last edited Sun Oct 14, 2018, 01:41 PM - Edit history (1)

You’d think this guy’s ideas would have been consigned to history’s ash heap years ago, but he’s friends with Ali Velshi, so Ali had him on today as he was subbing for Joy.

His biggest head shaker today was when it came to discussing government programs like food stamps: “ when both parents are unemployed, these programs make a lot of sense. But when both parents find GOOD-PAYING JOBS, they are less attractive to families.”

First off, the idea that parents - or anyone - can go from being unemployed into a good-paying job in an instant is just more fantasy, especially in today’s economy, where good-paying jobs are at a premium. Most people who have been unemployed are lucky to find a shit-paying job. The good-paying jobs for the middle class are disappearing, quickly. And of course, in Laffer’s fantasy world BOTH parents work and - naturally - BOTH find good-paying jobs. Ugh.

Second, if you find almost ANY kind of job that pays above minimum wage, you are not going to qualify for food stamps or most of the existing government programs Laffer is talking about.

Just more “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” bullshit.
