Democratic challenger Antonio Delgado is leading among older voters in the the race for New York's 19th Congressional District, according to a poll commissioned by American Association of Retired Persons.
Delgado has a lead of 43 percent to 36 percent over incumbent Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, according to survey results of registered voters 50 and older in the 19th Congressional District. The margin of error is four percentage points.
Questions in the poll ranged from concern over local heroin and opioid abuse to which candidate the person would vote for into Congress.
With five weeks to go before Election Day, candidates in New York would be wise to listen to the states most powerful voting group: 50-plus voters, said AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel in a statement. History shows older voters turn out in force, and AARP is seeking to ensure issues of particular importance to older voters are front and center issue like Medicare, Social Security, prescription drug costs, and family caregiving.

Independent candidate Diane Neal, an actor who lives in Hurley, said, I think, in light of the meeting that Trump had with Kanye ... that Faso should reconsider his stance on Delgados rap career. Let me be really clear Ive never been into the dog-whistle politics that Fasos been bringing in about Delgados rap past.
Faso issued a statement in July, apparently in response to a New York Post story, but without saying he had heard the lyrics himself, about Delgado songs that used the word niggas in the sense that blacks have not been allowed to progress.
In other songs, Delgado, who is black, highlighted what many critics said was an inadequate government response to the needs of the black community following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
"Mr. Delgado's lyrics are offensive, troubling and inconsistent with the views of the people of the 19th District and America," Faso, R-Kinderhook, said in the statement. "Moreover, he makes broad-brush attacks on capitalism and free enterprise, and he uses derogatory terms about women.
