I hope our Texas friends get out the vote enough for Beto to win because this poll does not look good for Beto.

(6,715 posts)Republican voters are coming home to Cruz even if they don't like him. Texas is probably two or three cycles away from being competitive.
Tiggeroshii
(11,088 posts)Neither should we. Polls mean little in situations like these.

(6,715 posts)Never give up. But I am not optimistic.

(11,088 posts)On election day. Beto is right now losing by 7 in averages ( this poll included). Heitkamp won in 2012. So could Beto. Polls dont matter close to the extent that votes will.

(6,715 posts)Fight to the end. I donated to Heitkamp after she voted no.
I would love it be wrong. The idea of beating Cruz is wonderful.

(17,802 posts)This isn't the A rated CBS/NY times pollster. It is a local cbs affiliate (CBS11) working with dixie strategies poll. Dixie strategies is a banned pollster by 538 because there polls are so poor and tilted.
Ignore it.

I guess that's the frustrating part....

(17,802 posts)I'm from MA. a DEEP blue state to say the least. But we lost a senate seat, Kennedy's senate seatt, to Scot Brown.
Upsets can happen.
You just need an upstart challenger and a weak candidate, and an off cycle.
Maybe TX isn't ready to be blue, but don't rule out the upstart's chances in THIS cycle.
There are a lot of reasons the poll's could be missing a lot of voters this cycle in tx. Roll with it. Personally, I'm enjoying watching cruz sweat and squirm.

(1,052 posts)If nothing else, we made the Republicans spend a LOT more than they expected to have to. Win or lose, our hope is that we diverted GOP money from other races of national importance enough to have an impact elsewhere.

(11,878 posts)As much as we all love Beto, Im afraid its a lost cause.
Arizona, Nevada, and Tennessee are all winnable flips from red to blue.
If we take those three and only lose one current seat, probably ND, we win the Senate.

(7,654 posts)suspect TN is as much fool's gold as TX.
I mean we gotta try because what's the alternative, but the map simply is too red this cycle to expect the miracle we are all hoping for. If it comes great, and we gotta vote anyways because you gotta play the game...but the odds aren't great.

maybe Beto (and others AND the DNC) can send him some much needed $ FAST !!!!!!!

(37,748 posts)And we were told Doug Jones was a lost cause in the AL special election and anyone who believed he would win was simply "delusional..."
Hence, I've learned not to take the prophets on DU with any more seriousness than I'd give to a televangelist.

(11,088 posts)Which is why it is so important to knock, call, donate and vote regardless of what we think the result of a race might be.

(20,601 posts)Because ORourke has raised gobs of money on his own and hasnt needed a lot of help from the party. Sounds like youre advocating his campaign giving money they worked hard to raise to candidates in other states which is of course both ludicrous highly and unlikely.

Heck, we are annoying pollster people ourselves.

(1,584 posts)Beto and just don't want to be on film saying so or they are just backlashing against pollsters. Al lot of those registered GOP will not be voting GOP. Not much to really like about Cruz.

(60,190 posts)Not counting Beto out period. Cruz disgusts wherever he goes. Beto wins people over wherever he goes.
We may be majority Republican (for now, and on paper), but Beto is straight and personable, as well as in the know about the issues. Cruz is just one more tired Republican spouting their tired lines.
We do not buy your phony ruse.
We do not want you, Cruz-you-lose.

(39,167 posts)I've had my heart broken before. However, he could win anyway. It's not just about him getting national attention or raising record amounts of money without PACs. This guy has been to every corner and cranny of Texas. The big cities are blue, that's just a fact. It's the smaller towns and rural areas that kill us. If he can pull enough votes out of these spread-out districts he could win. Ted Cruz knows this and is spending more money on ads in my area than I've ever seen for a US senate race.
You want to know why voter turnout in Texas is so bad? Because, for decades, it's always been a done deal. Republicans win. The Texas Democratic party, as an organization, barely existed when I joined DU in 2004. In those years I've seen it wake up, crawl, walk, stumble and fall, get back up again, walk, gain momentum and now, we're about to run.
Texas is a big old giant. Electing one Democratic senator doesn't make us automatically blue. We're probably going get second terms from Abbott and Patrick.
If Beto wins it won't have been a miracle. They'll call it that but they'll be wrong. Robert Fitzgerald O'Rourke did the work. Thousands of good citizens are out there block-walking, phone banking and texting for him, every day.
Things may not go our way but then again, they could.
