Kara Eastman (D-NE) gets last-minute ad push taking on Don Bacon's health care votes

WASHINGTON — Kara Eastman is receiving some last-minute air cover in the Omaha-area House race from a coalition of groups on the ideological left.

Eleven national groups, including organizations advocating abortion rights and climate change action, announced Wednesday a “six-figure” ad campaign that will run in the Omaha area until Election Day. The ad from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee’s Super PAC is also supported with funding from groups such as NARAL Pro-Choice America, Democracy for America and EMILY’s List.

The coalition ad announced Wednesday focuses on protections for people with pre-existing health conditions and features Jeff Schlichting, an Omaha financial analyst who describes himself as a conservative Republican.

“I voted for Donald Trump, but I can’t vote for Congressman Don Bacon again,” Schlichting says in the ad. “He voted to let insurers deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, like my daughter. As a financial analyst, I know American businesses pay too much for health insurance, giving foreign companies an advantage. But Democrat Kara Eastman knows that if all Americans could get Medicare, it would save money for families and businesses and we could increase benefits for seniors. This one’s easy. I’ve voting Kara Eastman for Congress.”

It seems every Republican who has fought to end protections for people with pre-existing conditions is running ads claiming they've always supported those protections. Obama named and shamed them in his Wisconsin speech.
