Hubby was discussing his concerns for the midterms and said "...at the very least, the Democrats have to take back the House..." when our Alexa app piped up with "OK, I have added "Democrats have to take back the House to your shopping list."
Yeah, put that on everyone's shopping list!

Does it listen to every conversation? Are there recordings? Can they be used in court against you? *shivers*

(32,634 posts)That's why I've turned my devices off. Not worth it to have my privacy invaded like that.
But hey I'm a Baby Boomer, so you know ... old!

(3,607 posts)So I have Alexa on the Firestick, but you have to press a button on the remote for it to be 'listening'. I just have to wonder if it truly works that way.
I've got nothing to hide, I just don't like it one bit.
I just want to know if it is possible to be listened to. Afterall, If no one is in the room, I don't hold my farts in.

(1,622 posts)...There is no way I'd allow a device that can be compromised and used as a bugging device into my home just for the sake of some so-called "convenience" because if I want to turn the volume up on my stereo, I'll do it myself and if I need to look up some information, I'll do it myself.
There's nothing that evil little box can do for me that I can't do for myself.

At least this time gave us a much needed laugh!

(41,960 posts)I wonder if they found a way to fix that because people complained.
A favorite of mine is the day I was driving and my phones Siri kept waking up and talking back to John Fugelsang on the radio. It took me a bit to realize every time he said Sirius she thought he meant her.

(52,208 posts)and alexa was woken up by something earlier in the conversation.
it can be hard to figure out what wakes alexa up sometimes, especially if there are several people talking and/or music or tv in the background.
