Just one week until the Midterm election and a Spokane Valley representative up for reelection finds himself under federal scrutiny after a manifesto distributed by him was leaked to the public.
The four-page document, titled "Biblical Basis for War" was originally reported by the Spokesman-Review. It's a radical Christian call to arms, outlining 14 steps for seizing power and what to do afterward in explicit detail. It calls for an end to abortions, an end to same-sex marriage, and if enemies do not yield and everyone obey biblical law, all males will be killed.
We reached out to Shea multiple times to ask him about this manifesto, contacting him on Facebook, calling his legislative offices in both Olympia and Spokane Valley, as well as his Spokane Valley law firm.
He has not returned our calls, but his legislative aid did say our message was being passed along to Rep. Shea. He did however post a video on Facebook earlier this month. In it, Shea admits to distributing the document, but calls it a summary of a series of sermons in the Old Testament, or "just a war theory" philosophy.
We reached out to the FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force about the manifesto. They tell us they are actively reviewing the manifesto for investigative leads.

(5,733 posts)Jesus discussed how it is not wise to put new wine into old wineskins. He said that if you do that, the wineskins will burst and the wine and the wineskins will both be lost. In other places the Gospels talk about being born again and putting on the new life (paraphrased). When the woman was caught in adultery, and there were men who wanted to stone her, Jesus gave them a new way to look at the situation and spared her. My point is, Jesus always showed kindness and love and forgiveness. He never advocated war or killing or anything other than loving your neighbor as yourself. And when he was asked who is someone's neighbor, that is when he gave the parable of the Good Samaritan. This is what being a Christian means to me. I honestly have no idea where or how spelling Christian with a small C began.

(53,061 posts)Incorporated as the first part of their 2 part canon called the Bible.
If it was promoted by Jewish followers they would call it either the Torah or the Tanakh, only Christians use the term "Old Testament".
Radical Christians misuse both the Old and New Testament to promote unchristian values exactly like the jihadists misuse Islam.
It very much is Christan Sharia Law.

Number 5:
Four ways to know it's time to fight:
a. God reveals His will to the leader;
b. Leader inquires of God ... Prayer council;
c. God puts it on the hearts of the people; or
d. God starts the fight.
And the terms of surrender:
10. c. ii. Must surrender on terms of justice and righteousness:
1. Stop all abortions;
2. No same-sex marriages;
3. No idolatry or occultism;
4. No communism; and
5. Must obey Biblical law.
iv: If they do not yield - kill all males.
Sick, twisted, delusional.

(82,849 posts)I'm confident that's probably defined somewhere in this nutcase's manifesto, but I'm also confident that by "Biblical law" he's not talking about feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, housing the homeless, and visiting the sick and imprisoned. He's probably also not into any of that sissy "serve one another in love" nonsense or lending freely to all who ask without any expectation of repayment. Biblical principles, all of them, but not prominently featured in a theology that leads to "kill all males."

(721 posts)Oh yes, frustrated, brainwashed individuals like this are very selective about what Biblical law is and says. Curiously, their interpretation just so happens to suit their depraved needs, both mental and physical.
I imagine they'd say the teachings of Christ in the New Testament about charity and humility need to be placed on hold ... temporarily of course ... because the true Christians are under attack. It's Time For War! And by true Christians, they mean reborn christians and their progeny. The rest of the world can go to hell. Actually, they literally believe the rest of us are.
I know several people raised as fundies who got out. It's a severe childhood defined by rules and which demands absolute obedience to biblical teaching - as interpreted by mental midgets like the one above.

(721 posts)It is curious. Why would fundies even bring up communism in their "christian" "manifesto"? What could possibly be the justification?
I am a socialist, and given how much people confuse socialism with communism, I'd really like to understand the rationale, if there is one. But I doubt it. Someone peppered their little brains with it and it stuck.

She and I are starting to communicate again since the 2016 election, but it has been uncomfortable for us. I think I am going to ask her how she feels about this man, but I do worry that we will go backwards in our relationship. I hope he is forced to resign.
