Two weeks ago, I had this conversation.
Is K going to vote?
No, he isn't registered.
Get him to register.
He won't do it because he doesn't want to do jury duty.
You realize jury duty has nothing to do with voting. It's based on a random selection of having a drivers license.
Well, he hates to drive.
-I stopped at that point.
22 year old is living with the grandparents. Rent free. Couldn't handle college. Is a huge video gamer. Has no political leanings. And probably has no idea about politics.
He is tabla raga and I'll bet susceptible to propaganda or cult indoctrination.
His grandparents don't recognize this.
The grandparents who dote on him and cater to his every word: A retired lawyer and a retired public school administrator and are very blue. Always vote Dem.
They're letting this guy drift off into some awful RW place. At least that's what I think.
Let me know what you think.

(5,126 posts)Was he raised by these grandparents or did he move in with them later in life? Has anyone ever expressed to him that jury duty is a civic responsibility? Has anyone ever modeled a life based on civic responsibility? Has he been raised to understand consequences, personal responsibility and civic duty? If one doesn't have a foundation for such things, it is hard to make the case in a few days for their participation in our Democracy and the consequences for not doing so. Parents and guardians share the responsibility for making sure that young people vote and it doesn't begin with GOTV efforts a week before elections. Take them with you to volunteer in your neighborhood or school, take them with you when you vote, if you knock doors, take them with you. Take them to a school board meeting or village council meeting. Raise them up to understand how our Democracy works or doesn't work. It has to start before they are 22 and living in their grandparent's house rent-free feeling like Fortnight is more important than the future of our Nation.

(30,540 posts)to vote anyway and he's not going to educate himself to do it. If anything he shouldn't be encouraged into voting, do we really need more ignoramus' casting a vote that effects everyone of us.
