I just renewed. Same income, same status. Double the price.
And I know just who to "thank" . . . . . .

(10,437 posts)That's the GOP plan and could still happen in a lame duck session of congress

(10,875 posts)I'm about to sign my husband and myself up for our renewal in NJ and I'm afraid to see what trump's shenanigans have done to our premium. Last time we were pleasantly surprised it went down slightly from the year before....don't think well be so fortunate this time.

(10,875 posts)just checked - for my same plan as last year, without my youngest child age 22 included on the plan anymore since she's thankfully secured a job with health insurance which will begin Jan 2019 and no longer needs to be on our plan.... for just myself and husband....slight increase in premium about $35. increase per month BUT for two people not three as before.....haven't checked what it would have increased to if my daughter had stayed on the plan..... but was anticipating a slight decrease...oh well....thanks trump

(17,862 posts)through our local university. It turned out that if my wife and I took one class each as undergrads per semester (4 total classes/yr for the both of us) that if you included the premium, the out of pocket maximum, and the cost of the courses you would be at $14K/yr. I am sitting at $9K/yr. right now for just the health insurance through my employer.
That might be my fallback if I lose my job. I don't know how it compares to ACA rates. With my wife we will always be at the out of pocket maximum.

Trump originally promised his voters better than the ACA for lower cost, and being a real fool he seemed to have thought that was possible. Now he's all in for destroying all national healthcare, but we should have at least the house and more states -- and he's already campaigning for 2020...

(53,342 posts)I DO agree with the removing of state lines for being able to buy a policy. They should all be nationally-based policies, not based upon your state or even your county. My previous job, I was working weekly near Richmond, VA but still living in FL. It was $100/mo cheaper for the same plan in VA than it was in FL.
Additionally, I now have the benefit of my employer covering about 2/3 the cost of my plan. I pay a bit over $400/mo for a full family plan with an HSA and relatively small total out-of-pocket limit.
People should NOT be punished based upon where they live or where they work.

(58,785 posts)what we set up. And that was just the beginning. It was supposed to get better every year, be rolled out without even one single tweak allowed.
Instead we have what over 10 years of a Republican congress have made of it by trying to drive insurance companies out of your area, keep as many uncovered as possible, destroy its funding mechanism, and on and on, of course with top priority of keeping you unhappy and eventually taking it all away. Yet it's still standing despite you and millions of others not fully behind it. Amazing. If there's anything you do like, thank Republican voters for that.
Btw, political scientists say it takes an average of 17 years after a major government program fails to get enough support to try, try again. I'm guessing, since we did once have even an imperfect national system that others really liked, that that cwuld happen some years faster. So someday if the ACA is brought down, after a few to several years of battle, at some point we should have enough power to start over and once again defeat massive opposition.

(46,094 posts)I only make $23,000 annually.
This will stretch the budget.
ACA explained that I'm getting $100 less monthly federal subsidy.

(4,959 posts)Got the email saying I can keep my current plan but my costs will be 'significantly higher'. Depending on how bad it is we may need to downgrade to a shittier policy with a high deductible and hope it's a lucky year. This year sucked healthwise, maxed out my deductible. Meh.
