Elections officials in North Carolina say humidity to blame for ballot technical difficulties

Blame it on humid error.

Elections officials in North Carolina said Tuesday that thanks to humidity, voters casting ballots in some precincts of Wake County are experiencing technical difficulties.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement said in a statement it received reports from around the county that high humidity levels are making it impossible for ballots to be fed through tabulators.

Still, the board assured voters that their ballots will still be counted, as officials will instead store them in “emergency bins” to be tabulated as soon as possible.

It also noted that the State Board will conduct a post-election audit to ensure that the number of authorization-to-vote forms signed by voters matches the number of ballots cast, so that none go uncounted.
